I'm guessing within 10 years. But there is no way the Dodgers can ever try to gouge their fans with being cheap on anything anymore.

I heard that it’s one of those Bobby Bonilla type contract that’s spread out over 30 years

That is the only way I see this being offered. Even then, that is still a lot of money. Eight teams right now do not have $70 million in payroll for 2024.

I have a small interest in the Mariners doing well since they are close and have always been a Reds fan. I am ok with both teams not giving one player that much money. Ohtani would have to be at the top of both his pitching and hitting games over ten years to make this worthwhile. That is highly unlikely.

I believe he won’t be pitching for the Dodgers is what I heard on the radio. Unless I heard wrong

Dude is paid less than the combined salary of a starting pitcher that plays every fifth game and a silver slugger outfielder that plays every game. The thing is the dude is both. He's both the best starting pitcher in the game and he's one of the best hitters in the game who instead of playing ever forth or fifth game as an ace starter Max Scherzer 60M per season or a silver slugger outfielder Aaron Judge 40M per season... dude is both. He hits when he pitches so there's no value lost there and he plays outfield and bats on his off days as a starting pitcher so there isn't any value lost there. The Dodgers are basically getting a guy who would make 60M as a pitcher and 40M as a fantastic outfielder both in the field and at the plate for the same price. By my math the dodgers are getting him at 70% what he's worth and that's already with the owners getting over on the players.

So yet again the owner gets a huge discount on the star player and makes a bundle off of production. You can say the same thing about 90% of the supermax players in the NBA. They are by far the biggest draw every night and the owners only have to pay them 35% of the salary cap which is less than 15% of the revenue generated. The owners in pro sports always win it's just a matter of how much they're getting over on the superstars that we all pay to see either with ticket sales, subscription services or just our time and advertising dollars by.

You may want to check your math. No pitcher makes 60M a year. 70M is close to what Aaron Judge and Cole will make this season. 70M is more than what Freeman and Betts will make this season.

Ohtani will not pitch in 2024. The track record for pitchers coming off a second Tommy John is not stellar.

This is just stupid money at this point. It's shit like this that has made me turn off the sport the last few years. Had to be the fucking Dodgers too. ..I know there's never been a better two way player in the game than him but c'mon...this is out of control

People were thinking he could have been getting a billion dollar contract. And had he not gotten injured again and had surgery again, he would of.

Ohtani to be paid $2 mill per season for 10 years. $680 mil paid out after that in increments. But I don't know how much/year.

They don't have a cap so none of it matters.
