we'll get there. Eventually Scoot's minutes will pick up. It's almost a guarantee they'll be slight changes to the roster. Cronin has a big stack of counterfeit injury cards to hand out to league officials. Once the paperwork is cleared, Portland will become Scoot City.
You watch plenty of basketball. You know when a shot doesn't look right? Pretty certain you do. I'm also sure you see when a shooter has a really good stroke. Scoot might work through his problems shooting the ball but even you must see that he needs to work with a coach (Which he is obviously doing in this video). Glad to see it. Hope he gets results from the work he is putting in.
No, I didn't even try because I have better things to do then pore over stats for a sports forum. Kobe was pretty trash his rookie season so there you go he only averaged 7.5pts a game 1.3 assists and 2 boards pretty comparable to Scoot although definitely more efficient as a scorer (not Scoot's job). Compare to Scoots 9.7pts 4.1 assists and 2.7 rebounds. Scoot less efficient but pretty similar output in more minutes.
I do not agree you can just dismiss Scoot's scoring skills by saying that's "not his job". If he's no threat to score, defenders will simply back way off of him and go under all the screens making it much more difficult for him to 'do his job'. And if his job is to run the offense and facilitate opportunities for teammates, then the 1.26 assist/turnover ratio he's sporting right now is a bad sign. That needs to be over 2.0 and if he's 'not a scorer' it needs to be close to 3.0 I also don't think you can dismiss the importance of efficiency. You mentioned Kobe as a rookie. In Kobe's rookie season, the average TS% league wide was .536; and the average points/shot was 1.19. This season, the average TS% is .576 and the average points/shot is 1.28. The efficiency landscape has evolved to the point that it may be the most important factor out there. If Scoot is sporting below average efficiency for an era from 30 years ago he's going to be much less impactful in today's NBA.
Dude... I was trying to find a highlight package for this game and if you type in Scoot Henderson the entire first page is literally nothing but "Scoot is a bust" videos from douchebag youtubers.
Not a single highlight package for his game. WTF.... What happened to the youtubers that would have these things cranked out before the game was even over?
right now hes had more bad games than good. the narrative is hes a bust. a good game does not negate a bad nor a bad the good. if he keeps having these games they will come.
How can you not love this guy. Saying all the right things. Showing me that the coaching staff and support system is really helping him. He was going to struggle like this anywhere, and I’m happy with his attitude and outlook on everything. He even says “I know I’m going to be on top of the world at one point” and that point in his career will come. I don’t care about the fouls right now. Next year, I will more, but right now, I love seeing him fight in the post for position. Whether or not the call goes his way is whatever, just another possession to look over in the offseason, he’s had a few go his way as well. If these are the hardships that have to happen on the way to Scoot becoming a lockdown defender at the PG position, so be it. With his body, Scoot is going to be a bully on both ends of the court against most PGs. Even bigger guys like Topic are going to have to defend, because Scoot is going to going to put those guys in foul trouble the way he’ll be able to get to the basket. I think the Scoot/Ant/Shae can co-exist, even now, on offense, as long as Grant and DA are both healthy and in the lineup. The amount of spacing in that starting lineup would be very good, and Ant would be a more efficient scorer. My worry is defense, because Scoot is still learning the whistle-calling aspect of the game. If Scoot figures it out on defense next summer, I have no problem trying to start all three guys. If it hasn’t we can root for a 6MOY campaign from Scoot in ‘24-‘25.
Kobe shot 44/38 his rookie year (not to mention he got to the line at 2x the rate as Scoot. Nobody would be talking about scoot being a bust if he were shooting 38% from 3. So Kobe is not a good example. I also remember seeing Kobe play his rookie year, you could see the talent oozing off him. I think a better argument for Scoot than his age, is that his rookie season isn't yet over. We don't yet know if the terrible shooting was mental, or just a terrible stretch. This should be more clear once he has a season under his belt.
Of course his shot doesn’t look right, but. I just posted that because there was actually a guy on here giving him instructions on how to shoot better. Get outta’ here.
He's working on it. Sure seems like he is willing. No replacement for hard work. He might have one of the best attitudes I have ever heard a kid have on this team. I'll bet you are enjoying running with some of these new kids. Hated losing Dame but It's sure nice to see some great kids on the team growing into some solid players.
