Trde Randy Johnson to the Kansas City Royals for prospectsthink about it:mussina/wang/chacon/pavano/small is fine, with Wright as a backup (only drawback is no lefties)KC needs something to bring fans, and randy johnson would do that. They have an awesome farm system loaded with prospects. Will make the yankees younger.obviosuly - probably contract drawbacks with this but Johnson was pathetic against the Sox

Here's my idea: Implement a hard salary cap like the NFL does so teams like the Yankees cannot spend loco crazy and destroy the market. Maybe teams like KC would be competitive. Let's look at KC and Pittsburgh: Baseball teams perianally suck, football teams perinally do good. MLB needs a hard cap. 1 dollar for every dollar over the cap, as well as no play until under the cap.

You want to change the system fine, but don't blame a team who is only doing their best to win Championships.I'd actually vote for a hard cap, if along with it there was a league minimum. Teams like KC and Florida (this year) are a disgrace to baseball. The Marlins suck in more money from the Yankees and Red Sox in Luxery Tax than they pay to their players. So every ticket and merchandise sale goes straight to their pockets. Translation: These type of teams have owners who would rather make a few extra million bucks than attempt to field a competitive team. THIS is the problem with baseball.Let us not forget that the Yankees were 3rd-5th in the late 90's, and never higher than 3rd in payroll when they won their championships. The only team to be in the top 2 in Salary and win a Championship in the modern Era is the Red Sox. And they were number 2, not number 1. So no team has ever "bought" a championship, the closest has been Boston at number 2.So if no team has ever bought a championship, then there is no excuse for teams to not spend money on players.Vote for a cap, yes. But for the love of Baseball, vote for a minimum too.

The Marlins are only spending 15M, b/c the owner is doing it to get leverage on a new stadium. It's still pretty funny that about 20 players make more than the entire Marlins payroll. [IMG]

seriously - people act like the Royals and Devil Rays owners are poor...if you own a major league baseball team - YOU HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY. They have a self-imposed cap, because they would rather amke money. Stienbrenner puts as much money as he can, then reaps the benefits. I agree that a hard cap may be nice, but the minimum (as Vilma said) is much mroe important.this is essnetially saying: 2 workers, one working too much, going past the overtime allotment, and getting the promotion. the other worker never comes in at all. then he complains the 1st worker is "working too much" and that he doesnt deserve the promotion. Bottomline - yankees are doing things allowed, and even encouraged by baseballALSO - the yankees dont spend as much = THE WHOLE LEAGUE LOSES VAST AMOUNTS OF MONEY. i tihnk attendence at other parks goes up by like 10,000 poeple per game when the yankees come in to play.

If a team can only spend between 50 and 110 Million on their entire roster it would be much better for the game of baseball overall IMO (Although itd leave the Yankees and Red Sox scrounging to get under the cap.)
