Thanks for clearing that, the context of that quote can be taken a bunch of different ways without knowing what questions were asked to him.
The full quote was "damn, stotts was right, Lillard makes the job easier. How you think I kept mine for so long?"
Coach Billups has 2 more years left on his contract after this summer, as Blazers management scrambles to find a much needed "alpha dude" in the next 3 drafts.
He is right and wrong in the sense they do not have the true alpha like they had in Dame BUT if someone is tearing it up in a game then they are the Alpha for THAT game. He is making a BS excuse to cover up the fact he should have drawn up the last play for Ant and not Grant plain and simple. I will say it again I like Billups but he is not the right guy to be the HC for this team and IF Jody does not eat the contract and fire him at the end of the season assuming he does not have a break through then Jody and the front office are clueless.
When he made the alpha comment he was 100% talking about how the game began or should I say how the first three quarters went. He said he doesn't have an alpha that just rights the ship on his own and that he himself has to do a better job of making corrections and getting the team ready to play because he doesn't have that guy to fall back on when the team plays like they did for most of the game. He wasn't talking about how the game ended.
year 5 is coach's option i believe, and I haven't heard of anyone hoping to pry Chauncey & Rodney away from Portland.
Is Billups going to be like a Doc Rivers? Suck at his first stop and then gets a collection of talent and suddenly he can coach!
I think Chauncey is a guy who understands the game and if given a talented roster wouldn't stand in their way of greatness and would encourage that greatness. He probably needs an X's and O's guy but he might get one. Chauncey could definitely be a really good coach in this league, the fact is that he's only had flawed rosters and talented, well built rosters win games in this league not coaching.
Billups said the issues are not entirely on the players. “I’ve also got to raise my hand and say, ‘I’ve got to be better at getting us prepared and getting us ready,’” he said. “I’ve got to look myself in the mirror, too. It’s not just on the guys. It’s on all of us. We’re a team.” About the slow starts to games for us. This is a learning process for the whole team, coaches included.
I think we talking about type of (forgive me) Draymond Green type of guy, that will tell guys to move and do the work. I hope they will be ok with this after Grant and Brogdon are gone and youngs will sort this out. For now, can you imagine Scoot, Camara or Sharpe telling Grant to go after fucking rebound? Or to tell Ayton to dunk the ball? For me it is clear, that we have two teams - vets and youngs, and they don't mix to well.
Been saying for a while this team needs a "heart and soul' player. Wesley Mathews or Brian Grant type player that can will a win at times. It lacked that kind of player when Lillard was here as well. They call them "Dawgs" and this team doesn't have one.
yup, though Ant is flashing often. But as young as the real talent is on this Blazer team, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing not to have one guy dominating things. The guys need to go through some stuff and grow their games. Hopefully they're figuring out how to play individually and collectively. I'm watching these games for the moments and developement not expecting wins. A shitty record was pretty much a universal expectation going into this year so I'm not sure why there is so much reaction to each loss. STOMP
