local Detroit news interviewed the Pistons owner. That goober sounds like a scam artist. He called his team "pretty good" at the end of this segment.

I feel like someone is going to benefit from their panic when they inevitably trade one of their young guys for a more win now guy. They could use Brogdon.

I would love to get Thompson but they won't do that. It's gonna be Ivey.

I think you're right. Not sure you could put Ausar's shooting with Scoot though. Would love to see it.

I think they'd totally trade Ausar for Ant. Don't think Portland does though.

Bogdonavic has to go. Maybe they'll get a pick for him? I dunno, he's been terrible. Not even worth looking at his stats.

Detroit's best players are Cade Cunningham, and Alec Burks. Sure Detroit has a bunch of young talent, but it's in general an astonishing collection of failure. It's not good for the kids to be burdoned with all this losing.

A perfect example of why going super young and relying on a bunch of lottery picks isn't usually a great strategy.

Weaver would get sacked (and he should have been already).

Drafting Ivey was also a bad strategy.

But it was good for the Trail Blazers.

Yep, that's part of the risk with draft picks for sure. Drafting 6'4" & under players who are sub-optimal shooters is extra risky.

Ivey shot 36% on threes, 53% on 2-pointers and had a true shooting percentage of 58% in his second season at Purdue.

    That is not sub-optimal shooting.

They already had Cade. That's why it didn't make sense. It's like us drafting CJ. I didn't understand it at the time.

I think Bill Simmons was proposing that they trade Cade before they need to pay him, and try and balance the roster. One idea was sending him to San Antonio for their 2024 pick + stuff. Make Ivey the lead guard. Bring in some vets for leadership. Hard to rebuild when everyone is so damn young and inexperienced.

Barring hindsight, a case can be made that Ivey was best player available. Nobody but Portland management thought CJ was the best player available.

Hmm. I wonder what draft-grade articles at the time said...

Lots of positive feedback for the Portland 2013 draft. The analysis in the last link even states, "McCollum was probably the best player available at No. 10."

Ugh, those things are so dumb. But can be entertaining to read in hind sight.

    Bwahahaha:
    • Milwaukee can be forgiven for taking a flier on a totally unknown commodity, but there's just not enough credible evidence to suggest that Antetokounmpo is going to turn into an NBA player.
