How long of a leash should Chauncey have?

?

What should we do with Chauncey?

  1. Fire him - even young players deserve a good coach

  2. He should be on a short leash - if we look like we're not progressing, he should go in season

Its totally Chaunceys fault that like half of the roster is in their 1st or 2nd year.

Let's look at the Mavs roster. Oh look, they're starting a rookie and a guy who wasn't good enough for the Blazers.

    Meanwhile:
    Anfernee -31
    Grant -13
    Brogdon -12

You can be young and still compete.

    Thing is, they aren't young.

They have 1 player in their regular rotation that is young. Of their top 10 players, 2 are in their 1st or 2nd years.

Bro, if you think that any other coach on earth could have lead us to a victory tonight, you don’t know the game. Sorry.

Blazers were statues on defense tonight. Weakside effort took the night off. Coach Billups won't chew his players out, so that job has been given to Blazer fans?

Obviously not, because he would be taking over a team that had been coached up to this point by Billups.

How about we revisit this after the next game? Wondering who will be available to play?

If it was just a matter of inexperience, the team would start to show improvement. If anything they have regressed. A culture of losing.

I'm not seeing any evidence of good coaching. The talent level on this team is not nearly as abysmal as their on court performance. I'm not saying they're good, but I think a good coach would get alot more out of this team.

Hard not to be when you get fouls for breathing on people.

    Easy.

    SGA Lotto pick
    Chet Lotto pick
    Giddy Lotto pick
    Williams Lotto pick

Portland has 2 lotto picks in their rotation (not counting Malcolm or Deandre since neither were the Blazers pick at the time they were drafted).

A lot of Portlands youth is 2nd round picks (Rupert, Toumani, Walker) or not even drafted (Badji).

Not only that, SGA is in his *6*th year, Chet played a lot more college level basketball than Scoot or Shaedon did and is almost 2 years older than Scoot and a year + older than Shaedon, Jalen is *2* years older than Scoot...Their youngest player is still *OLDER* than Scoot. Their youngest rotational player is older than Scoot and Shaedon (and Badji and Rupert).

That extra time, extra minutes/etc, makes a HUGE difference.

you aren't making the point you think you are.

This is the biggest reason to never tank. Losing on purpose is wrong on many levels. People want to say "players never tank" "Front offices tank" but that isn't honest either. Players that are on teams that are obviously tanking know they are expected to lose. That grows like a cancer.
This year is no different. Every loss is met with "Meh... We underperformed and we were dealing with a few injuries" by both the players and the coach. They all know they aren't supposed to win. You can even read The HCP's posts and know that team last night was not expected to win and when they lost badly it was met with "What did you expect"
Portland now has three straight years of losing. How many more are we looking at? Is 2 more years after this acceptable? 3??? With a major injury 4? Sure seems like that is getting close to a decade?

    MVP caliber player in SGA???

Do we have anyone doing anything close to what he is doing?

    Talent wins in the NBA...

the Clippers are supposedly stupid and traded one of the best young 2-way talents in the NBA (SGA) for a legendary, aging, oft-injured All-Star (PG). We're left to assume ticket sales and publicity in Los Angeles is more important then winning basketball games.

Of course, if the Clippers win the championship, then the Blazers media strategy to envoke "Ballmer is an idiot" will pop like a balloon.

I don't know how off from normal that is though. Most teams have a a few 1st and 2nd year players in the rotation. We also have expensive vets like Brogdon, Simons, Ayton, Grant...

So you're telling me there's a difference between this world and a perfect world? Oh no, if only I'd learned that sooner

So it's all about youth except when youth wins, in which case it isn't. Got it.
