Don’t think the point of bringing in a new coach would be to just magically become a playoff team. It’s all about building good habits with the young guys, establishing a sustainable offensive and defensive plan, letting the young guys adapt to it and get better in it. Those who improve immensely just by virtue of knowing the game plan better might see massive increase in opportunity over time, even if they aren’t as talented as other guys. Michael Malone joined the Nuggets team where their previous record was 30-52. Brad Stevens’ first year with Boston was 25-57. I’m sure there are more examples. Ownership will not change until the expansion happens, almost guaranteed. Why would Jody give up that profit share? I’m pretty sure all owners of the current 30 teams get something like that when the 2 expansion teams are added.
I kind of think Chauncey and Joe are joined at the hip. If Chauncey eats chili, Joe farts. I could see Jodie giving both the ax at the end of the season to deflect public attention away from her tepid ownership. I don’t think anyone gets canned before the end of the year because there’s no incentive to win anyway. Edit: Oops, wrong thread. Could a mod move this to one of Rasta’s Chauncey threads? Your choice which one.
I'm not a huge Billups guy, so I don't really care if they fire him. I also don't expect Jody to sell the team anytime soon. Though I don't know that she's waiting for the value of the franchise to go up if reports are true that she doesn't receive any money from selling the team. I have very little confidence the organization is position to identify and obtain a high quality coach. I think they're more likely to set a reputation around the league of being mismanaged and a place where elite coaches shouldn't consider.
Jordi Fernandez, please. Qyntel Woods, lol... "Pssst, Hey, Scoot. Check out my pitbull, cuh. You need to get you one, too."
Jordi certainly sounds like the hot name right now. My vibe of what his reputation right now currently is what Udoka’s was prior to his move to Boston. Lot of people, including some in this forum, thought he was going to be Pop’s successor in SA.
Heard the name for a long time. Wondering why he’s never gotten a shot. Makes me wonder. I get the same reaction to Sam Cassell when someone mentions David Vanderpool. Outside of a long stint as our assistant, he was associate HC for a terrible Wolves team, then def coordinator, then an assistant for Brooklyn a couple years ago. Don’t even know where he is now. Don’t really know what to make of Cassell. Outside of being an assistant for those John Wall teams, he followed Doc basically his entire career to LA then Philly, assistant with the Celtics right now. So man has seen a lot of playoff flameouts in his career lol. Idk, he’d be a new name I guess.
So…a bunch of conjecture? Gotcha. This claim seems incredibly baseless, with all due respect. You’re speaking strictly of the Chauncey hire. Fine, whatever. It’s over and done with. But Stotts was not a bad hire. We had an AS PF and Stotts recently won a championship with a AS PF that played similarly to Aldridge. The idea behind it was very reasonable. For the record, I see waaaayy too much Cronin dick riding on this forum for me to think that many of you guys actually think we’re mismanaged. It has nothing to do with why elite coaches wouldn’t want to come here. Elite coaches don’t want to coach bad teams. Young coaches that have proved nothing still have that fire even when their team sucks because they haven’t proved anything. Elite coaches who have gone through that rarely have the patience because unless you were handed a ready-to-compete team like Tyron Lue, Nick Nurse, Ime Udoka, you’ve already gone through that losing period earlier in your career. I suspect someone like Michael Malone will likely never coach a bad team again. Even if he were fired by the Nuggets one day, the team that hires him will be a playoff team hoping his championship experience puts them over the top. It’s like the real world. Anyone new in the work force will take whatever comes their way. Anyone who’s proven anything in their career will have much more options after 5-10 years experience.
Vernon Maxwell (see correction below) charged off the court, up into the stands and punched a fan (I believe, in Portland). *Edit*, Sam Cassel didn't. It was Vernon Maxwell. Thanks @Pinwheel1
Co sign on Woods. We would never worry about having a dog in the fight. Bernie Madoff can handle finances. No need to Google if you have not heard of Bernie either.
We agree Stotts wasn't a bad hire - different ownership and the franchise as a whole over the previous 10-15 years was fairly strong I don't know who "you guys" is and if you think I'm too high or too low on Cronin. I don't think Cronin will be the reason for a bad/great coaching hire, I think it's above him. Your theory about what types of jobs coaches would take is no less conjecture than my theory, though it appears we have some overlap in our conjecture If the goal is to get a young, unproven coach, with no real experience to turn this thing around, yeah I think there are tons of under-qualified people to fill the job. Filling the job with someone who was under-qualified was my concern last time and continues to be my concern moving forward until the roster is improved and ownership has proven they are willing to support/spend to build a winner.
This team feels like it's just a transition team. Jerami will be gone soon, and Brogdon too, and maybe even Ant. No need to fire and pay Chauncey (as much as I agree with it.) Let him run another year, get the next "real" team here, and then lets get the right coach who will be poised to run and polish a team of young, hungry studs.
I wasn’t speaking directly to you, I was addressing whoever would be reading my reply. You definitely know who “you guys” is, plenty of guys have used “dealt a bad hand” as an overplayed excuse for the Clips deal. It’s over and done with, I’m not upset at it or anything, but there was so much Olshey hate that it overcorrected to Cronin love, imo. You think Jody will have more of say on the coaching decision as opposed to Cronin? GOOD GOD DO NOT let that happen. I don’t know how I could stomach that unless she does the unexpected and picks up an up and coming analytics guys. Well what makes someone under-qualified? Jordi, we have a roadmap of where he’s been. David Adelman, same thing. Do you specific want someone with coaching success? Again, I’m just not sure how you get one of those guys with a bad team. Do you have some names in mind? I’d say that my theory isn’t baseless though. Udoka went to a team that basically said they were willing to accelerate the rebuild by buying up some of those vets in FA. Nurse went to a team with the MVP. Vogel went to the all-in Suns. Meanwhile…the only reason Monty even decided to take the job after telling the Pistons no was because the Pistons game him more money. Those are my reasons for what I said regarding coaching. Do you have reasons as to why you think that we reputation-ally would be at a disadvantage in finding our next coach? You didn’t name any reasons, you kind of just said it with no points, so I’m only left to assume it was because of the Chauncey hire and using Becky Hammond as a name to push out there with no intention to hire. <— I don’t actually agree with this statement, but people have said that.
