At this point, anybody that continues to defend Scoot is just a complete and utter moron. You could make a case that he is literally the worst player in the NBA.
I could argue that anyone that draws a conclusion on a rookie after half a season is a complete and utter moron.
I've heard variations of this since pre season, first it was the first week then 10 games, 20, 30 ect eventually it will be a full season then two and people might still be saying the same thing. hes been much worse than expected, i doubt he improves his finishing that much. Im hoping he can improve to atleast be an average starter in the nba.
That sums up my impression. Little Scooter plays too fast for his talent level. He should play more thoughtfully, like other rookies. An amazing percentage of his hurried passes are off a few inches, ruining whatever he is trying to do. In the rare times something elementary works, he prances, proudly smiles, and pulls at his jersey. He's a conceited high schooler, in over his head. I watch games for free, so almost always the opposing broadcasters. Usually they start boisterous about him being a high pick, then gradually lower their expectations. Walt Frazier said with fatigue in his voice, he has a lot to learn. Many start with the cliche that the game must be slowing down for the rookie. I wish I could tell them, it's the reverse. This error machine needs to play more slowly, not faster. I'm sure they tried. Maybe he's not uncoachable, just hard to tame, like a wild horse. Eventually he'll be domesticated, but this year, this maniac may be the most error-prone yet self-praising rookie I've ever seen.
Wow, Scoot’s play brought jlprk out of hibernation and even got a semi-serious post out of him. That’s rough.
I have said for years, that a young rookie needs 2 years in the league before we really know how good he will be. I still believe it to be true. I get that there is not much else to talk about regarding the Blazers, but let's be honest most of us have no fucking clue how good /bad Scoot will end up being. These daily critiques are ridiculous.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/suggsja01.html Jalen Suggs had a similarly rough first season. He's a much better player now, albeit a different one than he was projected to be. He went from primary ball handler to now off-ball creator who is really good defensively. Could be Scoot's path as well. I'm confident Scoot will figure out how to be a good player. Much less confident he's got star potential though. It's very rare for a player to be this poor in their rookie season and turn into a star.
Ive noticed that when Scoot shoots he doesn't always lock on the rim visually. With jump shots off screens he catches jumps then looks for the rim. Watch all good shooters they are locked on the rim visually before they motion into jump and shoot.
He needs to work 100% on his shot this off season. His mechanics are a little off. And while I admit I don't know jack shit about jack squat, I think it's because he's always been stronger and faster than others and could get around people easily, so he didn't *have* to work on it. His improvement on his 3 point shot is proof he can improve. He struggles with layups a lot tho, which I think skews his shooting % downward a lot. (I don't have proof this is the case btw, so if someone corrects me that's fine).
Once again, there is that word “expected”……. Curious why somebody would have such high “expectations” for a 19 year old rookie? Sounds like somebody believed the hype and wasn’t being realistic.
Go ahead then, make the case that a guy who is averaging 12 points, shooting 30% from 3 and about 5 assists a game, is "literally the worst player" in the NBA. I'll take your answer off the air.
Smh at another head in here that will be better off zipping up those assinine opinions in a bag better left unopened. I mean really… Some of these takes are hilariously insane.
