He's my second favorite player all time, so i was super happy they got him to go. Hopefully this is the start of him being around a lot more.
Yeah I hope so too. I think the main thing is he was very upset having to abruptly retire and still seeing all his peers in the league. Now when someone drafted with him who was younger (Aldridge) has been retired over a year, and had little impact for many years prior, its probably much easier to move on. Yeah I'm sure the insurance thing didn't help, whether it was people loyal to Paul Allen mad at Roy, or Roy mad at the Blazers he felt they pressured him to retire, or Roy mad the Blazers were mad, or whatever else, who knows. As I said in other posts, everyone at a high level in the organization at that time has now moved on or died so it would be beyond petty for either side to still hold hard feelings. I remember hearing a few years ago how Dame and Roy often talked, and that reassured me he was doing well and eventually there would be a better relationship here. Glad that has happened.
As I understand it, Roy had ALL the talent. Every year he had the best players in the state transfer in to his team. I've been the mediocre coach who blows teams out because I have all the talent. It's fun. Until you run into another talented team with a legit coach. So my question would be, how did his team do against other elite teams?
The best in Washington, at least. I'm not sure how strong that is. Doesn't say as much if you take the top player from the other top 4 teams in the state because of name recognition. There are 50 other state champions every year...
So......... BRoy netted us Scoot I'm still curious about his possible role in the organization... i would love to have him as a mentor for both Scoot and Shaedon
Dude ran for us until his knees blew up. Not his fault Kahn decided to pay him another $5 million and jeopardize Paul Allen's insurance claims which you have some bizarre fascination with.
Is he still coaching Garfield High? Maybe we'll see him at a Blazers game next season. I would expect if he is involved its very few dates, he mentioned wanting to be around his kids playing and has turned down all college/pro coaching inquiries.
Actually it wasn't running that did that...he kicked bricks and two by fours doing Maritial Arts much longer than he played hoops. That's what destroyed his meniscus, not running.
Meyers Fucking Leonard has more games played than Roy, yet people hate on Aldridge for leaving Aldridge should easily have his number retired before Roy
We cut Roy, dude couldn't run. Aldridge left an allstar duo and a team catering to him while confirming a commitment to stay at the start of that year. If you don't understand something so simple I'm not sure how to help.
