I’m not stressed nor was I bitching and moaning. I simply was making an observation that he better be a lot better than Jalen Suggs and if turns into Jalen Suggs, great… But that’s not exactly what you want from the 3rd (1st in any other draft lol) pick.
I wasn’t the one who was comparing him to legends, lol. I was even careful to say, “thus far” because things can rapidly change.
The conversation I started / responded to had nothing to do with bust. It was about Jalen Suggs and how we better hope Scoot is a lot better than that. Yes this is the Scoot is a bust thread but I think there are maybe 2-3 posters who actually think he is a bust based on half of a rookie season (lol).
Yeah whoever started that at this point in the season made a questionable judgment call. We'll see what his stats look like at the end of the season. Obviously he wasn't prepared to contribute to winning big like Joe advertised he was but he still has a lot of promise.
Scoot is going to be our tank commander this year, after we trade Brogdon. He's going to be shooting us out of games, and playing stupid defense...
I think he has the right coach, mindset and work ethic that he will be fine. Maybe not an all star but we don’t need all stars at every position. Solid starter for a contending team is my hope.
Off the top of my head, Tyrese Maxey, Lamelo Ball, Ja Morant, Trae Young and Cade Cunningham were 19 when they were drafted.
I never said he didn’t have those things. But I do think if we want to turn this tank around, we can’t be having top 3-5 picks (and Shaedon) turning into “good” role players. They need to be borderline allstars at a bare minimum. If Scoot is Jalen Suggs type, we need Shaedon to be an allstar and vice versa. Can’t have both of those guys not be an allstar.
And none of those came from the G league. Which Scoot did, and showed pretty well. But didn't really face a high level of competition. I don't think the G league is very good at developing players. I think the G league should go more international and feature playing more high level teams and tournaments in other countries, and even host some high level international tournaments here in the US.
How did SGA look his rookie season? It appears he had similar numbers being a year older. Granted he did start 73 games. I think Scoot will adjust and become much better in year 2. If anything I’m worried more about him staying healthy.
The improvement in Scoot this season gives me hope for years 2 and 3. He’s physical and tough-minded with a joy for the game and competition. It’s early, but I like him as the long-term PG for this team … and I like Billups’ influence on him.
