How about people like myself who find it unreasonable to believe that there isn't a single team in the NBA who would be willing to offer a decent return for Brogdon, and that the eventual/inevitable inability of this front office to get something done by Thursday will be a result of either incompetence or indolence?

Then I guess if he's traded I'll be happy with the return.

The thing is this is the one thing Joe has been good at... selling off veteran players with value for a fair return. I'll be pissed if he doesn't do it again because I honestly think that it will either be indolence or just a complete lack of direction, trying to straddle a line or some shit like that. I'm well aware it's very possible so I'm already prepared for the disappointment. Hopefully we'll both be pleasantly surprised.

It'll be boring if we don't make a trade. I at least want to offload Thybulle.

I'd say it was fun to read people subtlety altering long-held stances over the course of this conversation has been fun, but it hasn't. It's coming across more as "I need to say I never said what I made it look like I was saying for months so I don't get crushed on it than to actually have a better defense of the position."

There absolutely have been people saying if Brogdon isn't traded by the deadline it's a complete failure and indictment on Cronin. You know how I come to this conclusion? Because this has been discussed in multiple threads ever since Brogdon was acquired and if someone truly was advocating "as long as we get meaningful compensation and only as long as that" then they would have had ample opportunity to qualify that before now.

Sure that’s true in a sense. mid that’s the case you can probably get that deal next year too while teams are trying to shed salary…if not a better deal

Thank you for your advice. I will probably disregard it, wise though it may be.

I'm one of those people. I don't think Joe would have to take anything less than fair value for Malcolm right now and if he can get that and doesn't, I view it as a big mistake.

I'm sure the Blazers have gotten offers, but are probably waiting for the best one.

I'd have gladly seen Olshey trade a 1st for Brogdon back in our pre-tanking days.

I’d even break it down further and dilineate between 24 firsts and future firsts.

I certainly could have missed it... but I never got that understanding from your posts

    Same, Nate.

Maybe there was a disconnect, maybe I missed it somewhere, but I definitely have gotten the idea that you've been saying trade Brogdon for whatever you can get back, that there's enough compensation in getting the younger players more minutes to override taking back players in trade that never will do much of anything for Portland.

To be fair to this thread, we really need a "What if we trade everybody?" thread and probably a "What if they traded somebody and nobody came?" thread.

well, I think that's asking too much and basically asking for no trade

I don't believe, for a second, that any team would risk a top-10 pick for Brogdon. I think lottery protection would be fine with a conversion to a pair of 2nds after 2-3 years

I'm also thinking that any team willing to trade for Brogdon would have very little chance of being in the lottery anyway

Yeah, I would be OK with that because the teams that have been rumored to want Malcolm and any other team that makes sense for him is going to be in the playoffs either all of the next three years or at least one of them.

I think the Blazers should at least explore the idea and not just put an untouchable label on Sharpe. It would be a way to speed the rebuilding process. Could Markkanen be a target? I assume you would have to trade Grant. Trade Brogdon to the Knicks for Fournier and a pick. You would have Scoot, Ant, Toumani, Markkanen and Ayton.
