I'm sorta meh on Cronin and this coaching staff, but I believe they are trying to get Brogdon to a good spot and get value back—and they're willing wait out teams until they get what they're looking for.

Or people who believe that the FO sees an advantage to having MB’s presence on the roster as an aid to the young guys’ development, and that he may have more value in trades next season, either for players who will fit long term or for draft picks not in this current weak draft. Just spit balling here.

That's a bad gamble with his health, IMO. I don't see any way we get more out of Brogdon next year than now or this summer. And keeping him for a few months longer isn't going to be a major factor in the development of our young players.

Just my opinion, but Brogdon is worth as much now as he will be the rest of his career. However, I'd be very happy for him if he proved me wrong. I just wouldn't want to count on it if I'm building a team.

I’m talking about letting him play out this season and then trading him this summer. There is more player movement in the summer and more opportunity to use him in bigger trades.

One issue with waiting for the summer is a team trading for him would only be getting him for one playoff run, instead of two if they make a move for him this deadline. I would think more teams would value 2 playoff runs over 1.
I don't know for certain if there is more opportunity in the summer, either. Teams would need to match salary in order to trade for Brogdon. If we make a move at this deadline, we have the option of that $$(potentially) coming off of the books this summer, and no need to carry on additional salary next season. In the offseason, that isn't the case.
But, on top of that, a team that may be interested now might not have the salary in the summer to make a deal. A team like Orlando has been mentioned as an option. They have expiring contracts in Fultz and Harris to help match Brogdon's salary. In the offseason, those options go away. And instead of taking on a half year of salary for this season, we'd be taking on a full year's salary at least in the offseason.

If Joe communicated anything during the dame saga is that he doesn't intend to be prisoner of the moment, and if it means waiting, he'll wait.

now maybe he finds a buyer at his price before the price—awesome. but it appears the only sacrifice he'd have to make is some sort of major injury to brogdon and 10-20 more games of guard logjam before they start shutting guys down and play the kids.

not to mention, after the draft the picks in play will necessarily be 2025-and-later picks.

Sure but you misquoted me even when it was something that actually was pretty clearly written. People misinterpret statements all the time and they draw their own conclusions.

But it’s unknowable. Unless he said it himself or someone highly placed said that we did not explore trades. I was merely stating that if it were the case that we did not even try to move him, I would be annoyed. Just as I would accept a situation where he wasn’t moved if the offers suck. Those are the two extremes. There’s a lot in the middle.

I want to have faith in the FO. I just don't. I have yet to be particularly impressed by a Cronin-led deadline deal. I'm hoping this year is different, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

What if we trade nobody? Answer depends. Are we getting a 1st for nobody?

Depends, do you want the sugar rush of a few short term victories where Jerami and Malcolm carry us, or do you want to watch the young guys fuck up and get blown out but improve more rapidly?

    okay.

yes, i'd also be annoyed if some extreme possibility were the case, I suppose.

So like this recent report from Stein about Brogdon wanting to stay and sign an extension. I like the dude but no. We cannot seriously entertain keeping four guards on this team. That shit would DEFINITELY annoy me.

That headline and interpretation makes quite a leap. The original quote was from Quick's article where Malcolm just said he is happy here.

Doesn't say a single thing about lobbying to stay.

Stein has gone to shit since getting fired from ESPN.

God forbid we actually keep a guy who actually wants to be here. Why ruin our track record? If we have to drop a guard, let it be Simons. Brogdon is a far more complete player.

Sure but I think there’s a far greater risk that we don’t get good value in a Simons trade. Brogdon is probably worth a FRP and that’s decent value for him. Simons is worth…. A young player? Who would we want? Simons is on a decent contract, he’s still really young and he can play both guard spots. I’m just not sure he’s worth trading, even though I’d rather have Scoot and Shae starting.

One more thing about Brogdon. He's been absolutely stoked about every place he's been for about a year. Then he HATES everything about that place and wants out. And right now he wants an extension, so he's on his best behavior. Saying and doing all the right things.

Again. The more I think about it, the more I think we need to move the guy if we can get a first rounder.
