Years ago here I did a 30-year meta-analysis of Portland's free throw differential. This was back when we had the big winning streak until Detroit's coach pitched a fit about us having a positive FT differential. And what I found was that we have *always* been a -1.8 or so. The entire time FTA's have been recorded as a stat. The league has always hated us, has always gone after us, has always made us patsies for other teams to defeat.

You mean like waiting until the last minute to trade them paints you into a corner?

This is why it’s really damn hard to take the NBA seriously.

We don't know that. What if we traded both of them for KAT or another player with their salary (or more) that we had to pay for the next 4-5 years?

My larger point is that this ownership group is about getting short-term contracts and building assets for competing in the future, not locking our salary cap and competing now.

I'm going to reassess my game-watching future much earlier than that.

I have actually enjoyed this season quite a bit. Our defensive intensity has been miles above where it has been in the past few year, and watching the youngsters develop has been a pleasure.

I mean, I would like more wins and fewer losses, but a loss means more ping pong ball combinations.

nobody is suggesting trading them for KAT or a similar trade; every trade I've seen suggested has included 1st round picks coming back. That's the opposite of mortgaging the future.

and I don't really agree with your assessment of the ownership group and it's intentions. I think "competing in the future" is way way down on their priority list. IMO they care about current/future ticket sales, revenue, payroll, luxury tax. Cash flow is their king, along with Jody Allen continuing to rake in millions each year as the trustee of PA's estate. I think the past 3 seasons have proven to Seattle the Blazers can generate significant profits while being a shitty team. The power of a one-horse town

besides all that, do the math of outgoing/incoming salary obligations last summer:

    Dame + Nurkic + Little = 298M
    Grant + Ayton + Brogdon + Timelord = 345M

they traded the franchise player, got substantially worse, AND refinanced into a higher mortgage

We should make an offer to the Cavs to pry away Mobley for Grant + draft assets.

why on earth would cavs do that rade, mobley is better (and much younger) than grant and theyre having a great season

maybe theyd be willing to part ways with allen (although pairing allen-mobley seems to be working defensively, but its a questionable fit offensively, neither can shoot and it will be difficult to win in the playoffs with two non-shooters in the starting line-up)

not sure how mobley would do at center, but grant would make them better offensively and worse defensively (he can defend, but it seems like hes not willing to do so, guy just prefers to get his on offense and call it a day)

They played their best ball with Mitchell + Allen featured (Mobley was out hurt), and they probably need a deep playoff run to keep Mitchell. Grant would be a great now fit, and we have lots of draft capital to add to a trade to balance it. The pressure to resign Mitchell and the poor fit with Allen is the only reason I thought about it. How many picks would it take?

Is it lol if they’re getting a handful of 1sts? We have two likely lottery picks this year + future 1sts.
Sure. Do our two in 2024 and our 2026.

Wonder if a Philly fan is reading the JinxSpeed guys tweets and sharing them on a Sixers room somewhere claiming he’s an “insider”.
