If a rookie/sophomore Dame had this Brogdon as his mentor as opposed to Earl Watson or Mo Williams, would he be better than the player he ultimately became? Because that’s what most of the “keep Brogdon” camp would have me believe—that only guys who can take minutes in the rotation can be good mentors. Again, not sure why Brogdon is a better mentor than, say, a multiple time AS like Lowry.

Are you really worried about Scoot’s confidence? Scoot’s confidence is only rivaled by Anthony Edwards among the young guys.

I was sort of resigned to the Blazers doing a whole lot of nothing at the trade deadline... the re-signing of Grant and the matching of Thybulle demonstrated that management has a different plan than what I would have had, and while the team has been worse than I expected this year, I was unfortunately confident that the team still thought it could have veterans play lots of minutes and it would be good for the future of the franchise so... yeah.

How do you "Heavily Protect" a second round pick?

People can always excuse kicking the can down the road with this. Joe's been excused with "there's nothing he can do" way too much, especially since "he's just cleaning up Olsheys mess" doesn't apply anymore.

I just want them to fully commit to a direction other than mediocrity, and it feels like they just want to gear up to make a play-in next season.

Probably top 55 protected or something. Last guy I remember us trading a pick like that for was Shabazz Napier. Wasn’t a great player, but he played here for two years and was fun for a little while. That’s more than anyone could ask for a pick that likely won’t even convey.

I don't think the timeline for the rebuild is that soon. I was thinking at least another two drafts of being terrible.

This team is projected to be in the tax after using its draft picks this off-season.

Last time they were in the tax it resulted in dumping Powell and RoCo for nothing because the Blazers "had no leverage".

I'm worried it's going a similar route with one of our veterans.

Being projected to go into the tax for a rebuilding team is kind of ridiculous.

I agree. That's exactly why they should've been eager to shop Brogdon and Grant for assets to help maximize the window that's 2+ years away.

You just said you wanted us to compete for a play-in next season.

Joe signed professional tankers. Cronin handed Simons and Grant long term deals. Portland now has 2 very talented players who are not All-stars, which makes tanking for a pick perfectly legal under the new CBA.

It's not easy finding extremely exciting NBA players that are cool with swallowing their love for the game to take an early vacation. This is where Cronin excels above the other NBA GM's. Here's a fat Jody Allen bag, now pretend your toe hurts, because Joe's lineup sure could use a better ping pong ball.

Will Ayton and Brogdon, maybe even Scoot become part of the cool kid's club? Yaaa, getting paid not to play is the one of the best incentives in the NBA. Offered much earlier in the season by Joe Cronin's rebuilding Trailblazers.

No I didn't, I said "I just want them to fully commit to a direction other than mediocrity, and it feels like they just want to gear up to make a play-in next season."

Roster building should never be geared towards making a play-in, it should be about maximizing the chance to contend whether that's win-now moves or a rebuild.
