But had the Blazers given up two contributors and a 1st round pick for a guy who is a poor defender and who's offensive stats may be empty, that wouldn't have gone over well either.

Is it guaranteed we will have Simon’s?
    you are making assumptions

have we had a healthy roster at all this year? Could be the same next year?

I’m pretty sure Joe holds Brodgon as more valuable than a couple seconds or a middle first.
He like be wrong but I think he is making that value assessment based on his return for Dame and Dames value.

Also. The moves made around the league put a foundation under the opinion that there wasn’t much of a market for him at this time.

For the record I’m still on the fence about Joe. But I’m trying to keep things in a realistic perspective.
Nba2k has ruined many fans valuation assessments and trade marketability. lol.

I think it would be a mistake for him to factor in what he got in return for Dame because the rest of the league doesn't care about that.

If I bought my car for $10k under/over market, I wouldn't factor that in when it's time for me to sell because the previous transaction has nothing to do with the market value today.

I bet you Dame liked Joe's trade so much this deadline he is not going to ask to be traded from Portland again.

Prove me wrong, FAM. Prove me.

Oh I do agree with that. Why I’m not sold on him yet. But also far from ready to give him the axe.

    A) Different positions. What PG got traded for a 1st at the deadline? Dallas wanted/needed a PF.
    B) Dallas was desperate & overpaid for Washington.

Washington would have been an ideal replacement for Jerami Grant. There would be 0 pressure to win, and save cap space for improvements down the road. PJ is still honing his craft towards a bright future.

The Blazers must have other windows open during this year's rebuild. Windows that seem to have a strange locking lever for my fellow assistant GM's to peer through and visualize.

You think the Blazers need a below average defender at PF to pair next to Ayton, Ant, and Scoot? I don't.

You would've wanted to give up a 1st, and two of our rotation players (Thybulle and Walker) for him? Not me.

Wait, Indy paid a 2nd round pick, they didn't pick one up.

So they were just doing GSW a solid?

I will say this. This offseason we should see some action or his seat is getting warm. If nothing by next trade deadline, big swing action, it might be time to grab a pitchfork.

PJ is young, still learning. Coach Billups is a defensive tactician, and Washington would have become a 2-way monster in the Billups stand and do nothing zone.

Perhaps Brogden wasn't traded for what was being offered BECAUSE the Blazers DO have a direction and a vision of what they are trying to build?

No, I’m not comparing them. I’m comparing the vet’s impact. I’ll ask again—would Dame be better than he is today with the equivalent of today’s Brogdon as a mentor as opposed to Williams and Watson? My point was that Brogdon is noticeably better than both guys, and Dame still became Dame. That’s not a comparison of Scoot and Dame. That’s comparing the mentors that they’ve had. If Scoot had, say, Delon Wright, as a mentor instead of Brogdon, is Scoot going to ultimately become an inferior player compared to if he has Brogdon for the entire season? I’m not downplaying Brogdon as a mentor, it’s just that people who keep saying veteran mentorship haven’t been able to see what the day-to-day relationship between Scoot and Brogdon.

We’ll agree to disagree on Scoot’s confidence. I’ve watched over half of Scoot’s home games live. Dudes who lack confidence don’t shoot 25+ times when they are having a terrible shooting night. Dudes who lack confidence aren’t as boisterous after huge plays like he is.

Their direction is determined by their actions that all of us can see.
