Hundreds of thousands dead because they are defending themselves from an invasion... Yes. It's horrible. Russia should stop.
The contested regions are Russian people who want to be part of Russia, have been attacked by the west for years, had a referendum and voted to join Russia. Take a hint. Now people from the west of Ukraine are being marched to their deaths to retain lands where the inhabitants dont even want to be a part of Ukraine. Your idea that people are standing up to defend themselves is misguided. Thousands fled the country to avoid the pointless war, any voluntary enlisted soldiers are long dead along with the conscripts of fighting age. Now people who are too old to fight are being sent to die in battle against their will. And at the end of the day Ukraine will lose all those lands anyway.
Do I really need to point out that we were attacked at Pearl Harbor? I could list you quite a few conflicts going on around the world, that you probably have never heard of, that we're not involved in. How do you suppose the US chooses which conflicts to get involved in? You also seem to be assuming that I'm a republican. I actually hated the neocons and George Bush for getting involved in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's also a much different equation when you have skin in the game, which you do not. What if you were offered the change to pick up an AK-47 and fight in Myanmar? I'd bet anything you'd refuse.
There is no logical basis to any of their justifications or how they parse between which conflicts matter and which ones don’t. These opinions are formed by mainstream pundits and special interests, then passed down to them through corporate media. It’s why the narratives are so homogeneous and anyone who deviates from them in any way is crucified as supporting “the enemy” instead of their inquiries being taken at face value.
Just like we wouldn't allow Texas to leave, Ukraine shouldn't be forced to give up their territory. If those people want to leave they should leave. None of that gives Russia the right to invade it's neighbors or indiscriminately kill civilians.
It's been a bit disheartening to see how easy it is to get most people to believe, support something. And they literally can't see how much they are talking and sounding like Fox News of the mid 2000s, regarding the war in Iraq.
Bullshit. Russia is attacking their neighbors and killing thousands of civilians. Ukraine is defending itself. Very simple.
Ukraine had been bombing that area for years, and they overwhelmingly want to join Russia, which is understandable. Why not respect the will of the governed? It would be much less costly and bloody.
It seems simple if you don't really understand the conflict. You've gotten your understanding from propaganda.
In the frame of ten minutes you can research who are the biggest beneficiaries of the defense budget, then look at the sponsors of the largest news outlets and see they are the same. People STILL won’t ask questions, yet will scoff at other countries’ ‘state run media’.
You explaining things in an extremely rudimentary and over-simplified way doesnt mean they are actually simple.
When you invade another country and kill civilians in order to take their land you are in the wrong. This really is very simple.
There is no scenario that would make Russia right to invade and there is no scenario that would nake Ukraine wrong to defend it's territory or for the US to help them in that effort.
Who said Russia is right? Certainly not me. The sum of all the parts of this is that this conflict has run it’s course and it’s time to negotiate.
