I'm not a good prospect evaluator. Being a Duck fan I have been better on evaluating Pac-12 prospects when I have seen them a few times. I really wanted the Blazers to grab Brandon Roy but I had seen him play 15 or 16 times. I also knew nothing about his knees. On the other hand, I didn't think James Harden would be an all-star, so there's that anyway, I have watched a few highlight videos on Sarr and no, he's not like Wemby. But he might be on the level of Holmgren, or at least close. And I'd say there's a good chance he'll be at the level of Evan Mobley or Nic Claxton or Jarrett Allen...maybe better. If the Blazers have a chance to draft him I would sure hope they wouldn't decline because they already have Ayton; shades of Telfaire/CP3 I haven't seem much of Cody Williams although he certainly dismantled my Ducks a few weeks ago. His shooting numbers are off the charts but I'd be a bit skeptical about them being sustainable. Still, a 6'8 pure shooter would be really nice to add
I would take Saar in a heartbeat, then with the GS pick ......an athletic shooter at SF who would most likely need a year or two to develop behind Grant. A starting frontline of Grant, Ayton, and Saar would give us length we haven't had in a while.
Living in South Texas ... as bad as I wanted the Blazers to get #1 last year, I also wanted ANYONE except the Spurs to get him.
Heard from a couple people and read a few articles from those I truly believe know whats going on around the game, that this draft, Cam Whitmore, who I believe was around the 20th pick last season….would have been THIS years draft’s Number 1 pick. That’s why I’m not too excited……
Honestly the truth lies somewhere in the middle on this ... there will be a couple of guys that pop (maybe not MVP level stuff but good players) from this draft, the difficulty is really in knowing who. This is a draft where having #1 probably won't be any better than having #5, it's just about who gets 'lucky' with their guy. One thing I do like about this draft is there is some length to it, not many of the lottery guys are 6'4" and under ... most are in the 6'8" range and that's something we all know Portland desperately needs.
I am not a fan of a 215 lb center. (Wemby is an exception) I have watched enough of his videos to see that Saar can guard the perimeter much like Holmgren can. His 3pt shot percentage is not great, but the scouts all seem to think he will get a lot better at it
Not at all ... you said the draft will be horrible and that's some hyperbole, it might not be loaded but I'm also not into judging draft classes months after they've happened, let alone months BEFORE they have happened.
Would you prefer a 265 lb center? Tankathon presently mocks us getting Williams at 5 and Clingan at 13.
I saw that and I would love to get Williams at 5. However, I think both Williams and Saar go before that. I honestly do not know much about Clingan. Although I would like to grab one of the SFs that can score. Someone who slips down to us because they are not quite ready now. 15 or 16 tends to be a good spot for that.
well, I'm not a fan of playing guys with unsuited skillsets out of position. Now, it might not matter much in Sarr's rookie season, but I think the Blazers would be wasting a #1 pick by trying to play Sarr at PF just to accommodate Ayton. It would be just another straddled fence in my view by the way, Nic Claxton is a 215 pound C and he's doing fine. Also, Sarr looks a little bigger than 215 to me. I do agree he's more mobile than Ayton but I wouldn't want him trying to guard Lebron or Kawhi or Grant or Giddey or Doncic or Durant or Zion or any other of those SF's that masquerade as PF's these days. It might work against KAT and Markkanen but you can't play Minny and Utah every night
I agree with you, but unless things have changed, he has been projected as a forward since he was 16. This video is two years old
