Interesting, wheeler went out and they've scored 7. Not wishing on anyone injuries but perhaps this could be a blessing in the sky.

What the fuck is a blessing in the sky? You know the saying is "a blessing in disguise"...meaning something that looks bad turns out to be good. Didn't you claim to be a lawyer of some kind?! How the fuck do you get that wrong?

There was that hippie song Spirit in the Sky, dump's got a friend in Jesus and his Rangers missing the playoffs prediction is looking dire. I would attribute the outburst in scoring to the Rangers finally shooting the puck, Montreal blows again this year and as Valli pointed out they're bottom 5 in most defensive stats. Cuylle continues to make the best of his minutes, can't think of another Rangers rookie with such a well rounded game and it's interesting that despite all the hitting he does teams rarely challenge him.

I wouldn't start whacking your limp pecker there Porter. I haven't heard anybody say they think the Rangers are cup contenders despite their record. This team has stumbled into a lot of wins. Let's face it, it took an enormous first half by Panarin and an old backup goalie, finding the fountain of youth to basically prevent this team from fighting it out around .500 right now.

That being said, I still think if they can get another kid up from Hartford at forward who can make close to a Cuylle like impact and add a better role playing center, they can make a run if Shesterkin is white hot come playoff time.

Take your mind out of that homoerotic metaverse you occupy throughout the day to ponder this truth dump - a team that makes the playoffs is a Cup contender.

I can see both sides of the argument really. Of course any team that makes the playoffs is in contention for the Cup and any team that doesn't is not. But most hockey fans can look at the field of 16 and fairly accurately pick 3-5 teams who WON'T be in the Finals. The point is the Rangers this season while clearly in the lead in the Metro division and among the teams with a chance to win the Presidents trophy would prob fall into the 2nd tier of true cup contenders. The standings say one thing but the fans that follow them closely can see their weaknesses and how they can be exploited in a 7-game series. Some might say the Rangers need a better 3rd pair defenseman (or 2nd pair if you're Ranger71), others would say they need more scoring depth, others would say they need more toughness. Most would say they need all three.
Personally, I think their D is more solid than they have been in a long time 1-6. Gustafson was a very good signing. I wish they had more size and played nastier on the blueline but as a group I am more confident in them this year than the last two with Mikkola and Braun and whoever else they had.
Zibanejad needs to pick it up big time. Kakko has to improve. Lafreniere has to maintain his progress. The 4th line has to keep chipping in. The current roster doesn't get them to the Finals in my eyes.

I forgot to add that yes, dump has a strange preoccupation with other dudes genitals. It's w-e-i-r-d.

Funny that the "fans that followed them closely" strongly rejected Drury's hiring and change in philosophy to become grittier then scoffed at the idea of the Rangers even being playoff material. The beauty of playoff hockey is it's unpredictability, nobody predicted Boston getting beat last year as the Bs joined the wide majority of Cupless Presidents Trophy winners. Like him or not Drury's already one of the best GM's in Rangers history with his early success. I think this Rangers team is better than the team that was up 2-0 in game 3 against Tampa if they get a goon to protect the top liners who don't want to get their hands dirty.

Yeah, that is funny....but so is the fact that one of the early changes Drury made to become a grittier team is also something that you could argue he has since gotten away from and why a lot of people think the Rangers need to address it to become a top tier cup contender. Or at least one of the things they need to address.
What's not funny, at least for us Rangers fans, was losing in 7 to NJ in the first round last year. I think the Rangers are a better team now that last year but, could also see them getting beat again in the first round unless they make some previously mentioned moves in the next couple weeks. Get tougher, get deeper, get consistent.
