But Barbora was like the best and still had the potential to be the greatest ever. His chance of surviving is 50/50.

I probably care more about that horse than my own pet. lolI think it's heartbreaking to see a horse go from champion to fighting for it's life. And when any celeb breaks a bone, isn't it on the news too?Plus, since Barbaro DNF, billions of gambling dollars were probably lost.

also, a broken leg for a horse is like a broken spine for a human...thier legs are so essential thats why its so important. But iagree, theyre giving like, 10 minute segements on SC about it...while the NBA playoffs is barely getting anymore

NBA and NHL playoffs = extremely boring and uneventful until FinalsYou'd bet if the Cavs won, all they would talk about is "LeBron will win the championship"

^haha probably...But like nebkreb said, a broken leg is HUGE for a horse. He has a broken bone above the ankle AND below the ankle.

The horse might die. One of the best horses alive is probably going to die. That's the story. And on the Lebron note, ever notice how 100% of the talk is about how well he'll do next year, and 0% about how well the Pistons play?

Usually when horses, mainly thoroughbreds, injure their leg, they kill the horse because it is now uselss. Instead they are planning to have this operation work out, they put 23 screws and 2 metal plates in his leg, and have him be a stud. He may produce offspring capable of winning like he did. Honestly, it is a big deal for sports, and as someone above pointed out, there was a lot of money involved.

You know, ive had espn on most of the day between the TV at work and at home. And what I havent heard yet is WHY DOES A BROKEN LEG make the horse about to die? Why wouldnt it heal regularly like any human. And im not trying to be mean or anything, but why is this national news? Im not saying you dont need to report on it, but why have it be the leading story over the playoffs of other sports, ect.

A reason most injured horses become euthanized is because after a bone break, the blood flow to that region can stop or the horse contracts a disease.Plus, horse bones aren't like human bones. I believe that they are almost as thin or thinner than human bones and they aren't supported with as much cartilage and muscle as a human leg.The only reason they're probably keeping him alive is because of the offspring he could produce.
