Today in the Post was annual the Larry Dumbass Brooks article, the Rangers should piss away their first rounder and most of their prospects at the trade deadline to go for it. Fucking moron never learns.
Rangers should go for it! but not a sniper How many 1st picks pan out? kakko and laffy , they playin like #1’s? Rangers need a Tom Wilson , that’s all this team needs and the rest of team will absolutely play their best game Bank on it Go rangers
A lot of first and second round picks pan out if the dumbasses drafting know what they are doing. Cuylle second rounder. Miller first rounder. Othmann looks like he'll be arriving shortly. Perreault is leading college hockey in scoring as a freshman. Zibanejad was a first rounder of Ottawa. Lindgren second rounder. Trouba was a first rounder. Schneider was a first rounder. Lafreniere first rounder. Kakko a first rounder who finally looks to be turning a corner even without any PP time like Lafreniere. Kreider was a first rounder. Your point was moronic.
I do not follow game as much as you, don’t have the insight. but, what I do know is there are A lot more reasons why high picks don’t flourish.. could be the city they are in, teammates, coaches. Who knows, mostly cause they are kids rangers window ain’t gonna stay open for long Kreids needs to win now. Drury needs to get a Wilson type player , I loved Vatrano, but we need a more physical type. we have enough to win now imo, of course the hockey Gods play a big role. lol , at steps post last nite , bout trouba, wtf is the pylon doin, other than a possible border line hit? Go for it Drury
Do you actually want to win a SC, or just talk about how many points some kid has in college or juniors? I am not advocating trading the 1st round pick this year or not, I am advocating it should be on the table if the return is such that it clearly elevates the team. You cannot let a pick in the mid 20's at best hold you back from clearly improving the team when you are in 1st place, and top 5 overall in the NHL. Drury should not throw away the pick for whatever, but if he can get a package that is very good, you have to be open to improving and taking a shot this season. We discuss this a lot, and one doesn't need to like how the process works, but it is what it is, and you have to be in it to win it. Odds are it won't work out as only one team can win the SC, but when the teams you are competing with all improve, and many deal their high picks, saying no way I won't do it is almost like punting on setting your team up for the best chance to win. Or don't trade your 1st (only if it clearly improves the team) and say forget this season and draft some kid in the 20's who odds are may be a 3rd or 4th liner at best in 4 years. Your call.
Morons think trading 1st round picks will win the cup. 1% chance it will work out. Pass. Unless you’re trading for a Messier, you don’t give up your picks. Or you’re loaded beyond belief like the Lightning were where they could give up first rounders for role players.
Translation - we have no shot anyway, so why waste time trying to improve. Keep the pick in the 20's, and we'll MAYBE have a bottom 6 forward in 4 years.
I think Brooks is spot-on with this: There are different interpretations of what pushing the Rangers’ chips into the middle would mean. It does not mean making a trade equivalent to Tony Amonte for Stephane Matteau and Brian Noonan. It does not mean sacrificing Brennan Othmann. It certainly does not mean forfeiting the rights to Gabe Perreault. It does not mean trading Kaapo Kakko because, well, come on, did that ever make the slightest sense? The Rangers have been at the top of the division every day since Oct. 24. They won six straight early, they have won eight straight now. They are one of the league’s best teams. And they are playing well enough to justify the GM pushing his chips — not all, there’s got to be some left over for the ride home — into the middle of the table. I also think he is targeting the correct needs: The Rangers are in need of a right wing to skate with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. They could surely use an upgrade in the middle of the developing third line featuring Kakko and Will Cuylle on the flanks and Jonny Brodzinski at center. And they could use muscle on the left side of the third defense pair though the staff may be satisfied to stick with the offense-driving Erik Gustafsson. This all falls under the umbrella of becoming a tougher opponent.
You always have a shot if you make the playoffs but when you’re not the clear favorite and you’re not missing something very specific, you don’t throw away your first round draft picks or you’ll be in a rebuild very quickly Brooks is not spot on. He’s an old, fucking moron, who is praying that somehow the Rangers will win another cup before he dies.
I also think they'd need a 4th liner, as i'm not sure you can count on Rempe/Edstrom giving you any offense in the playoffs. I think they only go with one of the two in the playoffs, probably Edstrom. I doubt Wheeler will be back.
Don't forget if they added a C and/or RW, a player or players would be dropping down in the lineup (Brod for example).
I didn’t like trading all the picks when Hank was in goal, but the Rangers were closer then. Igor is no Hank either.
Yeah, Wheeler is 100% not playing again in 2024, possibly ever. The holes they have aren't going to be filled by anyone in their system. They will need to trade to have a shot. Or they can do nothing and continue to wait until next year and wait until the next year and wait until the year after that.
Iam not trading picks or any good prospects for some rental who will be here for two months and then see ya. Unless it’s a stud player with long term who is going to be here for a while it doesn’t make sense to trade a first rounder. There are always going to be vatranos at the TDL who you can get for cheap without giving up a first rounder.
Looking at every team that might be selling, there is nobody I'm giving up a first rounder for that would probably be on the block. It would have to be a player 21 to 25 that could grow with the team long term. I don't see that out there. Essentially, I'd like to see them give Jones a chance to have career somewhere else. I still think Sturm is the guy I would look at. He's got size, will come much cheaper and is almost 60% on draws. It seems like Rangers are starting to like having those two monsters on the 4th line and their 3rd line seems to be set. Ideally, I don't think Rempe would be in there for the playoffs as Vesey probably would go to the 4th line. So if they are looking for a player to put with Zibanejad and Kreider, Sturm isn't a fit. Eberle might be interesting. UFA after next year RW. Righty shot. Pretty decent playoff guy.
So what do we think? Are the Rangers in a damned if they do and damned if they don't situation? Could they win a Cup? Technically, yes...they'll be in the playoffs. But is there anyone here who would put them among the top 4 in the league with the roster as it is? I wouldn't...I'd put them in the 6th-8th range....MAYBE 5. Are there truly impactful players that will put them in the top 4 (or at least top 2 in the East)? What are those players going to cost to obtain? Whatever Drury and the brass decide they better fully commit to it. Either make a big splash and go for it or take your chances as is. I'd rather they do nothing at all than make a couple cosmetic trades. I'd also rather they make some serious moves to fill the gaps properly and go for it than sit back and do nothing.
