If you get the lucky (or in some cases the curse) of the #1 overall pick in your fantasy draft who do you choose and why? Personally my choice is the great LaDainian Tomlinson still. Reliable for about 1400 yds Rushing, 300 recieveing , and had an nice 20 TD's last season. I would chose Shaun Alexander but I dont trust him because of the madden curse and Larry Johnson could very well be a one year wonder, so I wouldnt risk it with the top overall pick.
but LT is just asrisky, because they have a terrible defense (READ --> will be behind a lot) and a rookei QB
Either LT or LJ because im pretty sure they can produce 1,500 yards with alot TD's. Like Derek said about Shaun Alexander, if it wasn't for him with the madden curse than he's definately worth the #1 pick.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bobferg @ May 28 2006, 08:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>LT</div>He's probably the best, gonna get more carries next year too cuz Brees is out now, Rivers isn't going to be pressured by a ton of pass plays his first year as a starter I wouldn't think.
I'm definately going for Larry Johnson. He got over 1500 yards while only starting 9 games, with a tremendous YPC average. I think he can get 2000 this year and 20 TD's.
LJ, no doubt.Last year I made the huge mistake of drafting a QB first overall. But yeah my top 12 (incase i get last draft pick) are here:LJLTShaun AlexanderTikie Barber (he's always been a solid pick-up for me)Rudi Johnson (he had amazing stats last year)Brian WestbrookClinton PortisLamont Jordan (had a big year towards the end of the season)Julies JonesSteve SmithTerrell OwensReggie Bush (gamble)
Priest Holmes is going to cut into LJ's carries, and until I hear that he's DONE I'm not going to change my opinion on that. Supposedly he's supposed to be the "Tedy Brushi of 2006" so he's currently on track to return. Johnson may see the mirror image of last season where he was strong in the final ten games or so, because I think Holmes will return and split carries with him. He may make a great #1 pick, but you'd have to trade him halfway into the season if Holmes returns..And again, until I hear that he's definitely done I consider him a risk.Passing on Alexander because of a video game is ridiculous..I don't want to say I believe or dont believe in the Madden curse, but you really cant let it effect your fantasy football draft. However, I wouldn't go with him either. Superbowl losers over the past 6 years or so have had losing seasons the year after, and Alexander was also in a contract year last season..Those are two bigger reasons to not go with him #1.It doesn't matter whos in at QB for San Diego..Tomlinson was the best back in the league even when the Chargers were winning four games a year, so I'm not worried about the weapons he has around him or whos under center. He's looking at increased production to bail out Rivers in the passing game and I like him the most out of the three top tier backs. If I was picking #1 overall, Tomlinson is my pick. He's going to get it done in almost all the catagories other than passing yards and passing TDs, although he may even put up some numbers there on occation. My top 12:LaDanian TomlinsonLarry JohnsonShaun AlexanderClinton PortisTiki BarberRudi JohnsonPeyton ManningSteve SmithRandy MossEdgerrin JamesBrian WestbrookLaMont JordanOn the Bubble...Steven JacksonRonnie BrownChad JohnsonTorry HoltCarnell WilliamsTerrell OwensChris Chambers

Which you only did half of. In terms of where I would draft Alexander, my rankings are-LaDainian Tomlinson-Larry Johnson (Dont trust that he will get enough carries to be worth the #1 overall pick and dont trust that the offensive line in front of Johnson wont break down due to age)-Shaun Alexander (Madden Curse, SuperBowl Hangover, Contract Year....too many issues)But far and away they are the best 3 players in Fantasy from last year, so they have the highest value and If I ended up with either Johnson or Alexander I would probably immediately put them on the trade block to reap the benefits of their 'value' but not feel the wrath of their 'risk'. Then I would look for one of the following if they are gone.-Tiki Barber-Clinton Portis-Edgerrin James-Peyton Manning-Steve Smith / Chad Johnson / Torry Holt-Rudi Johnson-LaMont JordanBut thats also the beauty of fantasy football, there are a million different ways to do it and none of them are really considered 'right or wrong'
