I would’ve liked him to add Sturm or a faceoff stud, but the reality is he didn’t overpay for a bunch of guys that weren’t going to guarantee us anything. I think after this season he will make some significant changes if he is still the GM. Berard surprised me a lot with his AHL season. I went off on him last year for not going to the AHL, but he proved me wrong.

Look at the words you used, guarantee us anything. I think that is the issue here, you think anything is guaranteed. No move any team makes guarantees anything, so why make them when we can hold mainly average kids and focus on 3 years from now, and 3 years from now, and 3 years from now.

You are a strange guy in that I truly don't understand your fandom. You call everyone names and seem to only care about average kids and picks. I never actually see you talk about winning. Very strange.

To each their own I guess.

I think our window will be open again next season though I think we still can make a run this year with a little luck. Lafreniere should be on the 1st pp unit next season and hit over 80 points. Cuylle should be close to a 20/20 guy. I think Wennberg is signed. Goodrow dealt. Berard/Sykora/ Othmann up. Perreault needs another year in college and to add 15 pounds of muscle. Lindgren is tricky. Schneider should get top 4 minutes. Trouba I doubt will be moved.

I also am not ruling out Drury using Jones and perhaps another prospect and his first to move up into the top 12 in the draft.

The cap is going up, so maybe they can/will re-sign Wennberg and/or Ros. That would be nice instead of both being rentals and wasted picks traded.

A Goodrow buyout saves us good money the next two seasons, only 138 K in his would-be last season, and then leaves us with a $1.1M cap charge for 3 additional seasons. I think it needs to happen though, if we cannot deal him away.

As for Jones, I am almost at the point where it is too late now, and all his value is gone. Drury has this habit of letting potential assets just sit there and lose value for nothing. He should have been dealt 2 years ago.

In a weak draft, maybe they should deal Kakko with pick #22 and move up as far as they can into the top 10-12. Opens cap space also to add someone who may be more productive.

Let’s see what Kakko does with this new center

If he did so well he’d 100% be here. You’re one of those half in half out people which is why we don’t ever win. You either care about building for the future or we focus on the here and now. If the window is now, in today’s NHL you have to go all in. If the window isn’t now, you need to rebuild. There’s a reason this team has been mediocre for so many years. It’s because of people with your line of thinking, refusing to make moves to win now but also whining about not being able to win a Cup. Which is it little dumpy? Do you want to keep bitching and moaning every season, wanting to fire every coach and GM, or do you want to actually win a Cup? If you want to win a Cup you gotta give up picks. I’m glad we didn’t trade our tops prospects, but coveting a 20-something draft pick instead of wanting to win it all is weird to me. I’d rather win then hold onto a draft pick that equates to a likely bottom 6 player if we are lucky.

You could put Kakko out there with Gretzky and Messier and he would still suck. Kid just lacks the balls to be good and drive to the net.

Fully agree with this. Right now he is allergic to getting to the middle or driving to the net. Said this in another thread but he is a huge source of our problems right now. The opportunity was there for him to claim RW1 and make all these deadline deals moot.

Hopefully Wennberg and Cuylle will get him back to playing a simple game. This playoff push might be last call for him.

Last year all you guys sucked off Kane and Tarasenko. Nobody said shit about a guy I wanted in Barbashev. He was huge in Vegas winning the cup. It's not the name. It's the fit. We had no 3rd line center and we got a guy that is a 30-40 point guy who was being used against other teams top lines defensively. To me, Wennberg and Roslovic both add speed. This team is slow up front with too many players. It showed against Florida. Maybe one of those two guys will click with clusterfuck Mika and Kreider and that line can do something at even strength.

If you go to the Wennberg thread I was the one defending it the most. I like both these moves for what they are. The question is just whether we have enough up front to compete with the teams that loaded up.

It will come down to Mika, Panarin and Kreider - and Igor - showing up.

Most didn’t like the Kane deal. It made no sense after Tarasenko. Drury was just obsessed with acquiring him.

I heard a ton of people saying, we're the cup favorites now! What a load of shit that turned out to be.

I was COMPLETELY against the Kane move. Tarasenko was good with this team right up until Kane showed up, then we had no idea where to put everyone because we insisted upon putting an injured Kane on the 1st PP and giving him prime minutes when he was as mobile as Tony Siragusa on skates. We fucked outselves with Kane, and that trade hurt us this trade deadline.

Please go back and find someone other than Chuck that truly and completely liked that trade. Chuck LOVED the trade. A few others liked it. The amount of arguments that I had with him and a few others when they’d simply say “when a guy like Kane wants to come here you make it happen” was ridiculous. That fucking piece of shit Kane can go rot in Detroit and when he tires can go rot in Buffalo. I have NEVER liked his dumb ass once and the move here furthered my dislike for him.

Show us where you mentioned Ivan Barbashev as a trade target for the Rangers prior to last year's trade deadline, please. You were way more focused on other guys. And don't forget you were also in on getting Kane as long as they didnt give up a 1st round draft pick.

We shall see what happens. Maybe there’s some miracle combination here that can take the Rangers on a long run. What can be said is that regardless of who they acquired they need more at even strength. Especially from Zibanajad who hasn’t scored in ages at even strength. There better be a switch and another level this group finds in the playoffs.

You'd struggle to find a bigger fan of Zibanejad than me but yeah, he has turned into hot trash 5 on 5. Embarassing.
