First, I can't believe I actually turned on the Men's basketball tournament game against Arizona. It was the usual torture, Ducks 1 for 12 on threes in the first half, down by as much as 15 when Dante went out with an injury (he does not have a high tolerance for pain), Ariz had 28 FTA at one time to Oregon 8. OR bench somehow got a technical at crucial part of the game and lost two points. Second, cannot believe OR won and will have a chance tomorrow to play their way into the NCAAs. Dante came back, played great defense. Shelsted and Cousinard made some shots and Ducks won. Arizona does not look like a team that can go far in the tournment. Caleb Love did not look good.
That Arizona team can beat anyone in the country, but they can also lose to about 50 teams in the country on any given night. Curious to see how Oregon, basically playing 6 guys, two of which are injured, handles their 3rd game in as many nights against a really tough Colorado squad.
I can't even keep track of who is injured. It's easier to keep track of who isn't...don't even need a 2nd hand Oregon won't get to March Madness without a win tonight, IMO
Their shooting is so inconsistent. Defense is always solid and Dante always strong but if they don't make threes, they will lose. If they make them, probably win.
I watched Colorado for the first time last night, just to see Williams. I am guessing he is being drafted on potential, because what I saw, in my unprofessional opinion, was not impressive. I was hoping to see someone who would come in and contribute right away, and nothing about his game jumped out to me. Curious what is it about him that has him so high?
he appears to be a wing with good length who can shoot from the perimeter. Wings with length who can shoot are NBA catnip
I will be interesting in watching him again tonight. He didn't show off any shooting last night. That is what I was curious about.
I was wrong about Oregon victory depending on them making shots. They hit only 2 of 17 threes, most fairly open shots but Dante shot 12 for 12 close in and Ducks hadonly 3 turnovers to CO 13
Dante also blocked a three point attempt late and then somehow kept it inbounds with a leap out of bounds.
Give it up to Nfali Dante. I’ve been his biggest critic but he showed up when it was needed most. Great character. I’m sure Altman would say this trip was the sweetest
