This guy is the only player on this Purdue team. What say you? Nice hook shot and 7' 4"! Yes he needs to work on his outside game but other than that he checks most all boxes.
Zach Edey will surprise people in the NBA but in limited minutes. He won't be a starter for a championship team but I could see him as a great super-sub. First big off the bench for most teams fairly quickly (by year three at worst). Could start for not great teams by that point too. Better than Boban and maybe slightly worse than Al Jefferson.
I take it he is not 1st round worthy or late first is where he is projected. I can see that. Is Clingan better?
No wonder some mocks have us taking a PG at 5. Thought that would be stupid but our HOF Coach likes to play small and quick.
I do this he'll be an ideal player off the bench, taking over what would've been Robert Williams III's role but with more offensive dominance and some interior defense. Would dominate against bench units and fix a problem Portland has, which is rebounding. With his recent performances and given his Draft Combine, I think he may be drafted right before the Warriors pick. We'll have to see how reports change once the workouts begin. Otherwise, too many internet guys are mindlessly repeating "he's too slow for today's NBA" and not "How does his game make an impact as a sixth man and how can he grow into a quality starter, if he tweaks a few other aspects of his game?" Seems like Givony has heard from a team looking to draft him in the lottery, for reference. I still think the ideal play is Cody Williams and then, Edey...if Edey and Clingan are gone, go for Ron Holland, Buzelis, or Missi (in that order).
Maybe it's a knee jerk reaction to his 1st half performance tonight and yes if superstition play a part then our last Zach draft pick was a crippling disappointment. On the bright side, you'll have all of Canada and the Chinese American/Canadian followers cheering on the Yao Min 2.0
I suggested this months ago and a bunch of people thought it was an absurd idea because "he'a a 2nd round pick". But I stand by the idea. Compare him to Boban. Boban doesn't play much, but look at his numbers extraploated over 36 minutes for his career. It's almost 3000 minutes so not an insignificant sample size. The idea that Edey wouldn't be effective in the NBA is silly. Play Ayton at PF and move Grant to SF.
He definitely moved up from his earlier 2nd round distinction. My guess is he is now a mid first round pick.
Call me crazy I'd go Clingan and Edey and call it a day! Along with our veterans in Ayton and Williams it'll make for a great rotation and rested players. Translation....more energy when on the court for everyone.
