No, not Ty Law.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Jets sign CB Mickens to help defensive backfieldBy Len PasquarelliESPN.comUnrestricted free agent cornerback Ray Mickens, regarded only a few years ago as one of the top nickel defenders in the league, has signed with the New York Jets, the team with which he began his 10-year NFL career.Ray MickensCornerbackNew York JetsProfile2005 SEASON STATISTICSTot Ast Solo FF Sack Int33 26 7 0 0 0Also on Tuesday, the Jets signed two of the top unallocated free agents from the NFL Europe League, adding defensive back Rayshun Reed (Hamburg) and wide receiver Reggie Newhouse (Cologne). New York released cornerback John Taylor and quarterback Kliff Kingsbury.Mickens, 33, returns to the Jets after spending the '05 season with the Cleveland Browns, where he played in 16 games, all as a backup, and registered 30 tackles, 13 passes defensed and one fumble recovery. While he did not have an interception, the 13 pass deflections indicated that Mickens can still get to the football and that he might yet be a viable nickel cornerback even at this late stage of his career. It is a role that Mickens performed admirably for the Jets for eight of his nine seasons with the franchise. He missed the entire 2004 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee in camp that year. But he recovered well from the injury and was effective for the Browns in 2005, the only season he has played with a team other than the Jets. The former Texas A&M star should provide guidance to a young New York cornerback corps. Beyond starter David Barrett, a six-year veteran, the contingent is relatively inexperienced. Second-year veteran Justin Miller is projected to move into the starting lineup at the spot occupied by Ty Law last season. The top backup probably will be two-year veteran Derrick Strait.New York did add five-year veteran Andre Dyson, who played for Seattle in 2005 but was injured much of the season, earlier in the free agency period. The Jets also added a cornerback, Drew Coleman of TCU, in the sixth round of this year's draft.Originally chosen by the Jets in the third round of the 1996 draft, Mickens missed only one game during his first eight seasons with the team, before the 2004 knee injury. He has appeared in 142 games for his career, with 36 starts, and has 324 tackles, six sacks, 11 interceptions and 103 passes defensed.Details on Mickens' contract were not yet available, but it is likely a one-year deal.Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com.</div>http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2463723
