While the Rangers are in a good spot by holding serve, and have the numbers on their side, look no further than recent history to tell you this series is far from over, and the Rangers need to bring their A game to Carolina. Two years ago, Carolina won games 1 & 2 at home against us in round two, lost the series. Two years ago, we won games 1 & 2 at home against TB in the ECF, lost the series. Last year, we won games 1 & 2 on the road against NJ in round one, lost the series. This year, Vegas won games 1 & 2 on the road against Dallas in round one, lost the series. The %'s are 80% to 88% that a team goes up 2-0 wins the series in the NHL playoffs, but we have some recent examples that tell you %'s don't always hold up, and a 2-0 lead is no guarantee. Messier said on SC he always felt game 3 was the swing game of any series, and he thought it was an important game. In round one 6 of 8 teams that won game 1 won their series, 75%, but 8 of 8 teams that won game 3 won their series, 100%. Point is, this series is far from over, and we need to bring it in Carolina, and I expect we will.
Vali basically said the Rangers have been disrespected by pretty much every analyst. Morons need to stop with the analytics in evert sports. They are idiotic. Based off regular season what analytics would tell you after two games the Rangers would be 4 for 9 on the PP and Carolina 0 for 10. Things in sports don't change. In the playoffs with hockey, physical play, special teams and goaltending win hockey games. I don't care what you do at even strength, if you are giving up two PP goals each game and you are facing a hot Shesterkin, the odds of you winning that game are very low.
Analytics are for nerds to justify a job. Look at how well analytics has worked for the Yankees. Crashing and burning every year because they don’t go by what they see on the field, but instead by what a binder some nerd that never played sports tells them to do.
If you don't think the teams that actually are winning those championships don't rely on analytics you are clueless. If anything, the Yankees just throw dumb money at marquee free agents without actually trying to construct a balanced/winning roster.
Moneyball was a great movie to some but the A's never won shit. Analytics might be more effective if the individuals promoting them had a clue about the intricacies of athletics.
I think it is both. You should take advantage of all tools available to you. The best teams and managers/coaches use analytics as part of their process and assessment and game planning, but also don't act like robots and say analytics says this so I have to do it no matter what. It is a balance IMO, and I think it would be faulty to totally rely on analytics only, and just as faulty to eliminate them and pretend they don't exist.
The Canes and the Pacers share something in common besides trailing the NYC teams 2-0 in their series, they are both whiny bit*hes complaining about refs, and diving, and calls (coaches included). Both teams need to get some balls and stop crying. I expect both teams to play very well going back home, game 3 will be extremely difficult for either NYC team to win, and neither series is close to over despite the 2-0 leads for the NYC teams, but go play with dignity Canes/Pacers, not pathetic whining.
Actually the A's won a lot using analytics. They just never won a title. They used it because they had no money. If they could have signed all their stars to big contracts, they wouldn't have used analytics. Something dumbass Cashman can't grasp.
