We all have favorite players who are NOT the guy likely to get picked at 7 or 14 or maybe even with one of the two 2nd rounders. Or he could be who you’d like to see at a spot but the world of mock drafts disagrees.

Last year, I hoped for Murray at 23. And I still like the pick! … which reveals my possible delusions.

It could be hoping for Sheppard at 7 … or my pick — get Orlando’s pick at 18 (or say screw it at 14) and pick Johnny Furphy! [positional size, heckuva athlete, good stroke, motor, bball IQ and makes basketball plays for a young dude]

The board is yours — who’s YOUR dark horse and why?

Justin Edwards is not good and there’s motivation issues with his conditioning and I’m totally throwing a dart at him in the 2nd round. I love a good ‘elite high school ranking’ flier pick.

14 seems too high to grab him, but I would like to see Jaylon Tyson end up a Blazer.

I know. It's a highlight reel. I see a very interesting project as a later 2nd rounder.

I want Klintman to drop to 34. He won't, but I'm hoping.

Players I like that will get drafted after 14:
Holmes
Edey
Devin Carter
Dadiet
Djurisic

More role player types:
Dillon Jones
da Silva
Nunez
Mogbo
Larrson

Swing for fences type:
Ware
AJ Johnson
Ryan Dunn

AJ Johnson, if we're keeping #34.
I’m starting to watch more of him, I like his scoring potential a lot. I just learned he and Jalen Green grew up together and train together, I see a lot of similarity in their games. Can AJ be more of a playmaker? Regardless, I’d like him if he was available at our selections.

Juan Nunez at 34 as a floor general Euro guard … and Payton Sandfort out of Iowa. Nice to have back-ups who can shoot and do a bit more.

He's impressed at the combine and in the scrimmages, which was unexpected given the minutes and league he's coming from. The flashes on tape appear to translate.

I really like the potential for playmaking. He's just really young and inconsistent, but you see the flashes. He can pass for sure. I like him a lot better if he can play lead guard at his size. This is a boom or bust prospect.

Boom or Bust in the 2nd round? No problem?

You know what’s hilarious? I’ve been using Jalen Green as a comparison in terms of size and athleticism. So I definitely would not mind two Jalen Greens, as long as they don’t actually play like Jalen Green…

Not to be that guy, but Jalen Green actually hit a new level in the second half of the season this year. It looked sustainable to me and I wouldn't be surprised if people's opinions on him begin to shift this next year. Who would have thought it would take a young G League Ignite draftee a couple of years to adjust?

No please, be that guy. I pretty much have been disinterested in basketball since around the deadline lol so this is good to know.

I’m going to have to watch some of his recent tape. I love his build, he just looks like young Kobe (pre-fro Kobe) whenever he’s in the air. We’re actually lucky to have a similar sized SG with even slightly better measurables in Shae.

Player (height, weight, standing reach, wingspan)

Shae (6’4.25, 200lb, 8’7.5, 7’0)

Jalen (6’4, 180-85lb, 8’5, 6’7.5)

AJ (6’4.25, 167lb, 8’6, 6’8.5)

DBook (6’4.5, 205, 8’5, 6’8.25)

Size wise, AJ is pretty impressive, outside of being even lighter than Jalen as a rookie, I think he was 175lb.
