Furphy is my long shot pick at 14. Salaun would be, but he’s getting noise to go earlier (maybe 7). The details of Furphy growing up in Australia and what his Kansas tape shows … IMHO, in 3 years in a re-draft, he’s clearly in the lottery … top 10. Really like the kid at SF as he matures and tied with Salaun (PF) for 3rd favorite forward prospect. (Risacher and Cody Williams go 1-2 and it’s close for me.)
I don't trust at all the oh Clingan is now hitting 3s in workouts. Col. They're workouts. A lot of these guys do. In an open gym with no competition. Can he improve on that? Sure. Anyone can with enough work, I suppose. But he took 8 3s in college and now we think he's gonna be a stretch big?
good lord the bullshit about Clingan is a tsunami right now. No, I don't believe any of it here's what I do believe: Clingan averaged 17.6 minutes in his college career. I think that will be the one thing that translates to his NBA career....low minutes, just like Walter Kessler who has started less than half of his games and averaged 23 minutes Dallas, with two bigs like Ware, just crushed Minny, with 2 bigs like Clingan who are both likely much better than Clingan will ever be. IMO, C's like Clingan are an anachronism in the modern NBA. Sometimes, there might be value in zagging while most others are zigging, but this would be the wrong zag for a 7th pick
Honestly I really think on this draft something or someone like this would be the best bet. You go very young and a long shot with a bunch of possible upside. Why not? Roll the dice on a prospect that might be really good someday?
Regarding Clingan, does anyone think the thinking of Clingan might be an over reaction to what has been said about officiating? That being that the league told refs to start letting the players be more physical, keeping the scores lower. If that is true it could increase the value of Clingan and Edey. Just thinking OTB.
I get what you're saying there is so much hype on players, even last year with Scoot, generational player. And Joes stating these aren't your average rookies they are win now! I do think If Clingan drops to 7 I'd give serious consideration in taking him. Watch the last half of this tape and check out some of his d abilities and passing. Has decent hands for a center also. Id take him over a couple of the guards everyone is talking about. Donovan Clingan 2024 NCAA tournament highlightsYouTube · March Madness23K+ views · 1 month ago
Anyone that cant even shoot FTs has to be just lazy or be physically incapable of shooting well. Avoid like the plague. Sure they may be the next Rodman but that is a huge risk. This team needs some "sure things"
Well, he averaged 22 minutes a game his second year and supposedly some of that was cuz they were worried about more foot injuries. which of course is another concern: a big guy with two foot inuries already... Saw something while I was reading. He had the second best rebounding rate for soph/fr. The guy ahead of him? Ware.
While we are talking about Clingan, here is some more on him. I still don't know how I feel about him. "The most fascinating upside with Clingan’s offense, though, is his passing. Clingan’s raw assist numbers aren’t outlandish as he averaged just 1.5 assists per game and his assist rate was 14.1, which did rank fifth among centers from true high major conferences. However, Clingan’s total assist numbers nearly tripled from his freshman season while his total turnovers were cut in nearly half. In his freshman season, Clingan’s assist rate was 7.4 and his turnover rate was 15.9. As a sophomore, those numbers essentially flipped to 14.1 and 7.8 respectively. Not only did Clingan experience more usage and pass the ball at a higher clip, but he did it while rarely turning it over. What’s so impressive about Clingan’s passing is the versatility in which it arises. Clingan isn’t exclusively passing out of double teams in the post to wide-open shooters. All season, he showed an ability to read the floor, find cutters, pass out of the short roll, and display an impressive processing speed. Clingan may not provide ideal floor spacing, but his impact as a screener, ability to read the floor, and passing accuracy will fit seamlessly into any NBA system that has a semblance of movement and creativity." https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/donovan-clingan-the-colossus-of-the
This is the actual quote. Just "chatter", and FWIW, Givony has Clingan dropping to the Blazers at 7 here, so . Givony also has Cody Williams falling to us at 14.
