It’s pretty wild; in 1984, 1994, 2004, and maybe 2014, Well, the rebounding and rim protection are primarily on the other side of the court, so him running to the 3pt line and back means he's actually lowering his mileage and can play better longer. Or something I'm really high.

No doubt, 3 time all-star Bam would have been a good pick. But 5 time all-star Mitchell would have been an upgrade to CJ. And made CJ trade bait.
I was not impressed with him either by the "eye test", but that can be deceiving. He just doesn't really look any more athletic to me than Edey, but with Edey, we know we're getting a great post player.
To be fair Brook didn’t even try a 3 point shot until he was in the league a few years. Also his FT shooting wasn’t stellar between 60-70% about. Another thing Brook got was MIP his second year meaning he improved greatly and that was from 21-22 years old. Seems like Clingan’s best comp is indeed Brook Lopez if you are being positive. Downgrading that might be more realistic but not necessarily the best comparison.
That is part of the game now. You already know this. Exactly what point are you trying to make here. Every big that can shoot a three is used this way. Any big that cannot will not see the court in a bunch of situations and will eventually have to work on becoming a three point shooter. Pretty much Gobert who does have his value but obviously can’t stay on the court.
The biggest thing that sets Jokic aside is not three point shooting. It’s his court vision and passing. You leave him open he will destroy you from three but if you cover him he picks you apart passing the ball. You can’t compare Jokic with Clingan on any level. At least not at this point.

Gobert weakness in the playoffs has actually been more on defense than offense - when he gets isolated on smaller players they get wide open 3s. It's not a problem in the regular season but it really makes me question his postseason value especially when he takes up a huge chunk of the salary cap. Clingan certainly has these weaknesses regardless of how much of his potential he realizes. The mobile big that can switch into guards just brings a whole different advantage to a defense.

I keep seeing a comparison to Lopez. Here's a fact: over his first 8 seasons in the NBA Lopez only shot a total of 31 three's; he made 3 of 31. He didn't start shooting three's until his 9th season when he was 28. In his first 8 seasons, when he wasn't shooting three's, he averaged about 3 offensive rebounds a game. Over the next 4 seasons as a three point shooter, he averaged less than 1 offensive rebound. And he shot around 34.3% on three's when the NBA average was around 36%
