<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Former league MVP Faulk contemplating retirement</span>http://bringtheblitz.com/news/151903298.shtmlBy Nick Caron06/09/06 at 6:42 PMFaulk ranks 4th All-time among RB's in total yards from scrimmage (19,154).The Associated Press is reporting that St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk is not attending the team’s final mini-camp this weekend while contemplating retirement. Injuries have ravaged the knees of the former NFL league Most Valuable Player and things have been slow recovering from off-season cleanup surgery.New Rams head coach Scott Linehan said Friday that Faulk had expressed to him concerns about his knees. Faulk’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, told Linehan that his client “wasn’t physically ready to go.” Linehan also expressed concern about the situation explaining that he believes Faulk should have been at the mini camp, if for no other reason than to begin to pick up the new offense. He also mentioned that he believed Faulk would have wanted to participate in drills even if he wasn’t physically ready, had he been at the team’s mini camp.“Faulk’s decision has nothing to do with the change in coaching staff,” Linehan explained, but the running back position would be very thin behind starter Steven Jackson if Faulk does decide to call it quits. Jackson handled most of the carries for the Rams in 2005, but Faulk still remains a great change-of-pace back for the Rams and has contributed 1,667 total yards for the Rams over the past two seasons.</div>Surprising. I thought he still had a bit of "gas in the tank." I hope he gets healthy again and can make some more plays. It would be sad to see him go out on a season like he had in '05.

Not really suprising IMO, he has had his production drop significantly the last few years and his biggest supporter in Mike Martz is now gone from St. Louis.

If the future Hall of Famer hangs them up, Steven Jackson should benefit. Tony Fisher would be the presumptive backup if Faulk did decide to retire.</div>

His best days are behind him and if his knees are hurting him I see no reason to stick around. He's no longer the franchise RB anyway.

Ahh great.. just the news ive been waiting to hear... i know he is still capable of so much.. and can do so much for the rams.. but if his knees are bugging him.. there is nothing you can do about that. I am sad to hear about this.. but he has gotta do what he is gotta do. I hope he can still stay in the orginazation and help out the players.. that would help a lot.

wouldn't surprise me either, from what little I saw of him last year, he's nowhere near what he used to be and can't compete w/Stephen Jackson.

Faulk is one of my top favorites ever. I would love to see him play one more year, but it's his choice. Great career, young man. [IMG]
