Klute, Don't Look Now, Invasion of the Body Snatchers... The man was one of the great actors of the greatest era of American movies. Not bad for a Canadian!
So many films and so many different roles. I always go back to the first time I remember seeing him back in the early 70's as Hawkeye in the movie Mash. Another great one gone!
First time I saw him was in The Dirty Dozen...but Mash and Klute also put him on the map. I think the Dirty Dozen was his first movie..I always thought Nicholson was influenced by him with his patented, "I'm a little crazy" smirk. Donald spoke with his expressions as much as his words.
Spooky, just finished watching one of Don's movies when the news broke. He played such a huge range of characters, brilliantly. He worked hard, but he loved his work. He seldom, if every, watched any of his own movies. He was all about creating the charactor he played. RIP...
