Agree 100%. Ant and Grant need to be moved for fair value soon (a good FRP out of each would work). They will start hurting our future the longer they are here, IMO.
I said 3 seasons and common sense would tell you there is always room for exceptions so lay off me -- LOL - but I will admit I ment to go back to clarify it a little cause i can see how it sounded like 3 years and your out type thing. All I was saying is we cannot play the wait game forever and hope players pan out and let's be real for a moment most of the time in 3 seasons you can get an idea of what that player MIGHT turn into so that is all I ment
I think he would be fine at SF - IF we have a good defender at SG. The issue is when we have a poor defensive PG&SG then someone like Sharpe with them at SF.
So if Sharpe has a bad year what resulting action does that cause the Blazers to take? I don't see it changing much except he might be offered a smaller extension. Of course I'd prefer he plays well and improves.
I am not saying we should trade Sharpe but we do need to see some real growth from him this season and if not then it MIGHT be time to consider trading him IF the package is right. Also I realize he has been injured and such but this is WHY I have been on the fire Billups thing cause he has kind of been inconsistent on how he plays him and such. Also I do not care if he is jacked and looks like Dwayne the rock Johnson if he comes out and plays like crap his looks means NOTHING so showing pics of him in shape mean little to nothing IF his game does not improve. You might think I am being hard on him but i am not it's just I am tired of the front office falling in love with players and not doing the right thing when it's obvious the player has prolly hit his ceiling or does not fit the team. The best example of this is Ant -- I love him but I have come around to see that it's prolly time to try and trade him and get the best package for him so he can move on and the team can put ALL it's eggs in the basket of a Scoot / Sharpe back court.
Sharpe easily has the potential to be our best player. No way would I give up on that for another 3 years at least.
Sharpe has already shown that he can play on both sides of the ball. He just needs the opportunity for a consistent role and good developmental support. He'll be fine. Will he be an All Star? Maybe, maybe not. But he'll be a quality starter if the franchise doesn't hold him back.
I think people also have forgotten what he can do, because last year he was injured for most of it (missed 50 games) and didn't ever get a chance to get himself set right. Even still, dude averaged 16 points a game.
No one should be close to untouchable on this roster. I just don't think you get the value back for Scoot or Sharpe that it's still realistic to hope that they have in their future but if the package being offered for either or both matches the value that they potentially have, then you pull the trigger on any deal that makes sense. Hopefully both guys will be healthy, hopefully Ant won't be ball hogging every damn minute he plays or better yet he's gone in a trade and hopefully both Shaedon and Scoot show why they're not only our franchise's present and future but that they have potential to be the best back court in the league.
Potential -- the most dangerous word that can be used and the word the is used to defend why we do not trade someone and the word that is over used and that is the point I was trying to make in previous posts . The problem is using Sharpe as a example and maybe was not a good one but the real question becomes is HOW long do we wait cause we are going into year three so if he gets banged up and gets hindered on the dev side or maybe gets in Billups dog house and gets minutes reduced for Sharpe. Then if this happens and god forbid Brogs is still on the team and who Billups seems to have a complete hard on for and not joking when i say that and ends up giving Brogs some of Sharpes minutes. This all comes back to can we trust Billups with his development when he has not been good at it in the previous two seasons. In the end as much as this comes down to how far can Sharpe grow its also in Billups hands and not going to lie that is kind of scary and I hope Billups finally hands him the keys to the team to the two young guns of Scoot and Sharpe.
The only potential is if/when Sharpe potentially makes the All-Star team. check out the 20-35 second mark of these highlights. Shaedon can block shots and rebound. That's a fantastic anomaly for a Blazers guard.
As a serious fan of the draft, next week brings hope … and hopefully so after the picks are made! Scoot’s improvement in the 2nd half of the season quieted some of the negative chatter and concerns and this season is big for him. Other young players were fun to watch especially Camara. However, it is Sharpe who tops that list for seeing what he is growing into. Thickening up and developing mature handles can move him to getting his own shot at 3 levels instead of relying on others.
