Payton was an absolutely terrible signing in terms of value. It was clear as day at the time to me. I hated the signing. BUT... it worked out well. He did diddly squat on the Blazers, but we got out from under his contract and got some trade assets. I doubt anyone else we could have used that MLE money on would have made much of a difference, so overall it was a positive for the Blazers and I was wrong about the signing.
Sure, definitely not fired over GP2 though. Overall, he was a overwhelming success as a GM for them. Nitpicking his failures, reacquiring GP2 from Portland wouldn't rank at the top... drafting Wiseman at #2 is well above that. JW was sent out to Detroit as part of the deal with Portland sending Gary back to the Bay which was an admission of that valuable draft asset being a complete bust. The W's owner Joe Lacob is supposed to be incredibly overbearing calling his front office guys dozens of times a day (at all times) and the GM is #1 on the speed dial. Meyers lasted 12 years on the job. STOMP
Prior to knee and achilles injuries, Klay was a great defender who took on the other team's best 1-3 nightly. Now that he's only pedestrian on D, Klay is no longer the great fit he once was. While Steph is better on D then he once was, neither he or Klay can adequately stay in front of let alone slow down the other team's lead guard/wing. If I'm them, I'm looking for a way to gracefully move on rather then commit to a very expensive roster without top end potential. Podziemski is much better at slowing down/harassing lead guards & does a little bit of everything while shooting 39% from deep... on a rookie deal. If Klay walks to a better playing situation for him like Orlando or Phili, I don't think it effects them much if at all... but what do they do with Kuminga? After another down year with suspected family issues, I don't see much trade upside for Wiggins. JK is the piece they could reshape their roster with in a trade or rebuild around. Regardless unless he requests a trade, Steph is not going anywhere. STOMP
who owns the 2025 Warriors pick? They might stink up the farm next season... pending the fire sale. Steph Pod Moody Kuminga Green that looks like an Orlando Magic lineup before they got Banchero. Next summer's GSW pick might be top 10.
GP2. Stealer. Stealer of the basketball Stealer of fans hearts Stealer of other franchises $ Zero respect for him.
oh yah? They should give Steph a year off and run the young guys. With any luck the Warriors will draft someone better then Wiseman.
Think you mean if Warriors had got top4 pick this year and kept it, then we'd have their 2025 pick. But yeah since that didn't happen GS has it. If GS had made the playoffs we'd still have their pick this year, it just would've been worse.
