None of these things you list matter much.... I mean eventually coaches might when the Blazers try to win but now its pretty irrelevant.

The problem with Jody/Vulcan is shipping out NBA roster assets primarily to duck the luxury tax in trades for many years going back to shortly after Paul died. Paul was the opposite - he would send out cash and take on salary to gain talent on the roster.

Maybe you don't care either way - fine whatever. I loved the SPAM era when we were paying $100 million for that 2000 era roster - thats probably equivalent to $300 million today. That was our one advantage over the glamor markets. Even the later years with Paul I had faith if we got to a point the team needed to fork over large tax bills to win we'd do it. Now I have zero faith in ownership being able to push that cash in to win if we ever get to the point that could make a difference.

I was being sarcastic about all the posts suggesting she was waiting until the last second to hire new assistants to save a few bucks.

This fits with my theory. It took this long for Billups to realize for certain that no established team wanted him for head coach so he is stuck with the tanking team.

Maybe we need one hardass on the staff. I wonder if they consulted with Brogdon (who played for him at Indiana) before the hire?

Idk about a playoff push, even though I’m sure the team never intends to lose.

I figure the goal is to try to establish a winning culture amongst with our young core. Good habits for future seasons when they have the experience to compete.

Do you think Billups could listen to other teams coaching offers?

The Blazers did not allow Phoenix permission to talk with Billups.

Is it coincidental that the Cavs announced their coach today?

    How do you know this?

Im sure Portland would allow Billups to pursue another position as long as Blazers get compensation

I think he would. And I still don't think it's been confirmed that Blazers wouldn't geive Phoenix permission.

Terrible hire. Going off memory, Brogdon might have been one of many players who had an issue with Bjorkgren. I know TJ Warren hated him for sure and Nick Nurse eventually came to dislike him over time. He likes to undermine the head coach and micro-manage the players. Guy also has some sort of intermittent explosive personality disorder.

So I read this thread and I'm confused on whether these are good or bad hires? Figured I would ask all of you knowledgeable people about where we stand at this point?

MarinerDNA -- you might be remembering correctly but you might not but one thing for sure is he has warts but he is a very good coach at least on the X's and O's side of things. All we can do is hope that he learned his lessons from his past mistakes but I am ok with the hire cause nothing else has worked so far. This is why I would have just preferred to let Billups go and start over specially with 2 new lotto picks ( prolly - assuming no trades ) coming into the fold but we did not so we are where we are.

    Crap

Just what we need, yet another reason players aren't going to want to be here.

Is Bjorkgren, Fleming, and Burrell better than Brooks, Billups, and Hetzel?

Honestly have no clue. I'm assuming most are better than Billups' brother. Did he have any experience before coming here? I've never liked Brooks as a head coach, but figure it's good to have a vet voice for a young coach, so was likely good to have him here early. After 4 seasons, maybe not as important? It's funny that Hetzel went to Brooklyn to replace Burrell(Amongst others), and Burrell is coming here to replace Hetzel.
