He was drafted because of his name only, over a more deserving player. What kind of guaranteed money is he gonna get?

Blazers want no part of Hardaway so he was never going to be a part of a Mavs / Blazers deal according to a vid I linked yesterday and this trade was mentioned as a rumor in the same vid

Truth is I think the Mavs needed to clear out some cap to even try an add someone like a Grant / Kuzma etc

I would not be surprised for another trade to drop after this and who knows it might be a Grant to Mavs deal we shall see

The Nuggets are kind of faltering. It looks like they're about to lose KCP to free agency and they gave away Reggie Jackson. Cheap owner tanking contender?

Or they realize they need an upgrade at those positions. Does dumping those two give them more flexibility?

Didn't Murray just sign a huge deal with them?

No - they're still hard capped and they're about to give Jamal Murray a shit-ton.

The Mavs likely don't have contracts for this to be possible any longer - they only gained flexibility to use their MLE.

Hardaway or a player sent back in his place would have likely been required, even if Hardaway ultimately went to a 3rd team.

No, it just avoids luxury tax.

Jackson is fine to send out but I'd be very disappointed if I was a Nuggets fan. KCP is a title winning starter for two teams now and they have nothing to replace him with except the owner saving cash. Its rare to have a title shot and you need to take advantage of every year possible.

They will need to extend KCP or they are definitely going down in talent. If they lose him, I can see Orlando going after him or even the Sixers. KCP is a good player. The Nuggets can't afford to lose him after they lost Bruce Brown last year.

They probably star chase at first but if that doesn't work maybe they explore Grant. I highly doubt they want to give us full salary relief and good picks. Maybe they would give up some of each if we take back a player in sign and trade or such and a pick. Then they can stay over the cap and resign Harris too/use full MLE/etc.

Also didn't think of it at first.... But Detroit using cap space on absorbing Hardaway salary could greatly reduce the chance they might be interested in acquiring Grant if there was ever a chance of that. Them absorbing Grant and giving us #5 was a much discussed deal previously.

SharpesT -- with all due respect you do not know what your talking about -- I linked a vid yesterday and it can get done w/o Hardaway

I do not think it's a great package but it could work the problem is it might leave the Mavs a little thin since they would have to combine 3 players

Example and it works : Green , Klebler and Prosper plus 2 1st's -- its not a great package but it could work

Is a championship really worth more than draft capital? If true the Nuggets adding George would certainly be the risk worth taking.

Sounds like theyd have to send out MPJ, Id be very hesitant to do that and mortgage draft picks as George is near the end of the road then the Nuggets would be screwed.
