Well, unless he takes less, they will be at the second apron and won't be able to aggregate salaries for a trade. So if LeBron doesn't sign for like 1.2M less, they won't be able to make a trade for Grant.

1.2 MIL or so less? How can he ever support his family with a cut like that! What is Bronny making? But seriously, if he doesn't cut his salary then doesn't it show he couldn't care less about the Lakers improving?

Yes I saw that too, but keep in mind, if they thread the needle, they still can't be taking in more salary that puts them over the second apron. DLo + Vincent is 29.6M and Grant is 29.7. How much less LeBron takes will be pretty important to whether a Grant deal may get done.

Will definitely be interesting to see. Nothing can become official for a few more days, so they have time to make adjustments to any deal, and am sure if they came to Lebron with a, hey, we can land Grant if you take 1 less, or whatever it is, then maybe he's amenable.
That and the possibilty of expanding it to add Rui and RW3 or Thybulle, to have them taking in less

Everything going on right now isn't official until this Saturday. So in theory if they get the Grant deal done sooner then they don't have to worry about all of this stuff. Maybe this is LeBron's way of having even more leverage to get the Lakers to get something done.

Lakers soaring well past the 1st apron effectively takes them out of Derozan, I believe the limitations there are they can't use MLE, and can't acquire someone in S&T. Again, timing on deals will be key

Lakers adding Nate McMillian and Scott Brooks to the staff --- let the Lakers suck begin

I think those two guys are great pickups for JJ if he is as advertised a tactical and Xs and Os genius who is also so close to his playing career that many of the guys on this team know him that way. If that's who JJ is then the experience of Brooks and the grinding nature of Nate (not in a Thibs way in a Nate way) will be really beneficial to that roster.

I think Bryce is gonna be better than Bronny. Bryce could end up being a #1 pick

Yeah it’s been talked about a bit that Bryce is the player to watch.

did he sign or just agree to sign?

if he signed, according to spotrac, it looks like the Lakers are 300-400K blow the 2nd apron so they would still be able to aggragate salaries assuming they sent out more money than they took back. But they still haven't signed Bronny and that would put them over the 2nd apron

    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers/yearly

I'm like just about everybody here and would like the Blazers to trade some vets. If they really are serious talks between the Lakers and Blazers for Grant, signing Lebron may be a way for LAL to force Portland's hand. If the Lakers traded Russell + Hachimura they'd be sending out 6M more than they'd take back which would give them some breathing room under the 2nd Apron.

But it would put Portland over the tax line. As has been pointed out, the Blazers could crawl back under the line by trading somebody like Reath. Better yet, they could maybe get well under the line by trading Russell to another team for a smaller salary

    Russell + Hachimura = 35.7M
    Grant = 29.8M

that trade would give the Lakers some breathing room under the 2nd apron. It would put the Blazers back over the tax line but there are some simple solutions for that

that trade makes sense for both teams at this point. I'm assuming the Lakers are resistant to giving away two firsts. Or maybe they are wanting a Vincent for Thybulle swap. or maybe the hldup is Portland trying to find a 3rd team for Russell; or two teams fro Russell and Rui

it's hard to imagine LaVine is an option and it sounds like Derozan isn't either

Highly doubt that Lakers would include DLo + Rui + picks.

DLo & Rui can actually crack the rotation.

I figure its going to be Rui (Grant type skill set) + Vincent (negative contract) + Picks
Throw in a JHS/Knecht swap with Reath and you have an equal trade:
