it's totally fair because it absolutely is unprotected. It could be the 2nd pick and it would still convey

I've never heard of an unprotected pick before than can't be #1.

So .4 less assists per 36, while playing 70% of his minutes at SG, than Dame did as the full time PG at at 24.

And you don't think he can play PG?

the trade would drop the Blazers to right around the salary cap. It would give them a 31M margin under the tax line, and a 37-38M margin under the 1st apron. It would allow the Blazers to carry their full MLE into the season, and starting this season, that MLE is like a super TPE. And they would still have the option of using the 8.8M Lillard TPE until September. Those could be valuable exceptions approaching the trade deadline as some teams will be eager to shed salary and might be willing to pay draft picks to do so

this wasn't about signing any free agent

touche!...how about a top-1 protected pick...does that meet your criteria?

Ant gets traded for a top-1 protected pick

Ant was a known defensive liability. Not the case with Scoot or Sharpe.

That sounds almost as valuable as Raef LaFrentz expiring contract, the golden ticket.

It's like a top one protected pick that is the worst of a swap. It's certainly worth something and the biggest asset I didn't want to part with in the Deni trade. But it's underwhelming to be the only asset returned for Ant.

I'm not completely opposed to that type of deal, I just think the cap relief portion has lost nearly all its value so that would have me lean no on the deal.

He is currently extension eligible I believe.

He can get a 3 yr, 125 mil contract in addition to his remaining 2 yrs 53 mil.

    ~5 yr, 180 for Ant.

I dunno, it's clear he needs to be traded. But seeing what guys like Quickley got, I guess I wouldn't be shocked if he got the extension and the team explored trades later.

Im beginning to think the reason Ant hasn't been yet, Im not sure Joe wants to trade him until he knows what he's got in Scoot. This next year will be telling for sure. he doesn't have to be in a hurry.

Regardless of the confidence level in Scoot, I don’t think trading Ant is a massive priority until the league interest is worthy.. he’s currently worth more to us until the right deal presents itself

Remember, we are in the third year of a 5-7 year plan. No need to hurry.

the RealGM poster, who was the first person anywhere I saw that said the Blazers were going after Avdija, said today that Detroit has shown interest in Simons and is doing their due diligence. Nothing is imminent.

unfortunately (if you want Ant traded), the Pistons don't have an available 1st till 2029....there's that year again

Detroit only owes one pick to NY. Its protected top13 next year, top11, finally top9 in 2027 becoming second rounders. 2029-2031 yes are completely unprotected.

There are a lot of creative ways to get plenty of draft equity from them, acquire the top9 portion in 2027, or do swaps any of those earlier seasons, do 2028 swap. Conditi0onally acquire the pick two years after NY conveys. Also can explore acquire the pick owed back from NY, such as Detroit remove some protections so it conveys 2025 or 2026. Or we give NY our worst 2029 pick for Detroit to clear up their picks. Then Blazers are free to get any of Detroit's next 7 years of pick(s).

What about just a swap with our 2025 pick and a 2029 pick? That 2025 swap could conceivably be Flagg and I can't imagine Detroit makes the playoffs - hell I might consider giving them Simons for ONLY a 2025 swap.

That actually makes sense…pairing Ant with a big lead guard on a team that really needs shooting. Who is Detroit willing to part with (new GM right?) if not picks? With Ron drafted, bringing Simone back, and adding Beasley and Hardaway, what about a swap sending out Ausar and Jaden for an Ant package?

Detroit desperately needs shooting, they have a lot of defense with shooting issues so Ant actually does make a ton of sense there.

I'm not sure how they'd match his salary without sending out a bunch of dudes. They're not under the cap anymore, right?

Ivey is interesting. I don't think they'd send out Thompson.

I guess they could remove the protections on their pick to NYK and that should open up some picks. They could unprotect their 2026 pick and send it to NYK and that would open up 2028 and 2030. This seems a little steep for Simons though.

Fanspo has this warning on trading Hardaway... I had thought the trade restriction was much shorter in the offseason though
