Would've been an interesting hypothetical if Ant and Grant were traded but instead we kept Brogdon.

Feel like we kind of sold low on Brogdon as he was crazy effective when he played last year and fit good with Scoot/Sharpe.

I'm interested to see how Deni looks next year, hope this is a great deal but for some reason I'm just not yet as convinced as so many others are.

    Great point.

I wonder if Washington would have preferred Simons. If so, I'd rather have Brogdon + '29 pick than Simons.

Why would Washington want ant when they have Poole?

Joe traded 2 FRP's and a veteran player with a successful career for a Wizards rising star. Cronin added expectations to the Blazers.

Deni can ball, Cronin traded picks to land him. Eventually, down the road, if the Blazers can't put decent season together, the "what did you expect?" excuse will be drawing from an empty well.

One concerning thing that was brought up on the Locked on Blazers podcast is that his descending contract could be problematic in a few years. When we go to extend him, we can only go up 40% from his previous salary.

or 140% of the estimated average player salary... (likely to be ~$16M)

But either way, that will hopefully be well below market price for him - with a starting salary ~$23M.

As long as Blazers treat him well and build a competitive team - I don't see this as being a huge flight risk. If after 3 years, you get the sense that he might be - then you still have the opportunity to trade him.

That's great because in 2 years, it'll give our negative Nancy's here something else to whine about.

Guess I don't look at it this way.

First, you have to remember at that time max contracts will be approaching 80 million per year.

I'd tend to think he either doesn't improve in which case the Blazers likely prefer not to extend him, or he improves and is worth much more than that 23 million per year.

So I do think it's a real thing that we may not be able to extend him, sort of similar to LaMarcus last year before free agency and we have to just roll with him becoming unrestricted.

Even with that dynamic his contract is an amazing value, and could allow us to add that last key starter before all our rookie contract extensions kick in. So his contract is still an awesome value and great to have. It's just, yeah the difficulty giving him a big extension if he deserves it is a legit possible downside.

I'm assuming either they would be a multi team deals or separate trades or Washington just doesn't care as their in more asset acquisition phase than worrying about playoff rotations.

I don't think Washington cared at all about acquiring Brogdon, in terms of fitting into their rotation. They just view him entirely as a temporary asset or cost to acquire picks.

What's interesting is more of the negative Nancy's are more positive on the team than they were 2 years ago. And more of the positive "I enjoy losing in the 1st round" folks are negative.

if he's making it out to be a great trade, the Blazers will likely have no choice other than allow him to become UFA then use the 30% of cap calculation

yikes!!...the salary cap could be 187M by then

Only on S2 would fans be worrying about a player outperforming his contract that has four years remaining on it.....

I have now seen it all.

Dude has a ton of potential, is young, putting it all together, and has a contract favorable to the team. Most of the league was interested in dealing for him.

And people are struggling to like this deal?

Theoretically, we can feel good about our young, high-potential starters for 4 of 5 starting positions for multiple years now and we're not happy about this movement?

Who even said that? I mentioned that it’s something to keep an eye on because if he’s as good as we hope he is, we would not be able to pay him as much in free agency in four years. Everyone has been mentioning his contract as a big win, but it could bite us in the ass if he’s putting up great numbers.

Wasn't talking to you directly. That you took my post as directed at you speaks more to you than me. But, based on your response, you still don't understand that in 3-4 years of we're having this convo, WE won.

    God bless and good night.
