Teams over the cap but under the luxury tax have a ton of flexibility matching salaries - not sure if Hardaway 16.1million can just be matched with Simons in that case? Hardway would certainly not have any trade restriction if his salary isn't aggregated

Would be funny if we did a 2025 pick swap with Detroit as techinically both picks are owned by other teams (Chicago/NY). But I can't imagine either team makes the playoffs so effectively we'd still get all the benefits of a swap.

It would be pretty sad if Simons value was THJ and a 2029 pick, plus a swap..... but that might be where we are. This type of player just doesn't seem very valuable anymore..... and I really don't want to extend him.

Hardaway, Ivey, future pick for Ant.

That works after Aug 27 when THJ can be combined with others in a trade.

I loved Ivey at the draft and it looks like they've soured on him. We can slot him in as the third guard and let him loose as our 6th man for the future.

I would do that. Obviously I'd love to get Thompson, but I don't think that happens. I think Ivey is the one who they'd be willing to move.

Much better optics putting Ivey in as a backup compared to our "best player" in Ant being asked to be the 6th man. And he's on a rookie scale for a few more yrs.

I think a Cade-Ant duo is also fantastic btw. Lot's of synergy there and not many overlap of strengths/weaknesses.

I honestly wouldn't mind making him a gunner off the bench, but I doubt he would buy into that for long. Once you make someone a starter, it's hard to take that away from them.

I think waiting until August makes sense because I think Grant is still the priority, but Grant might not get dealt until the Markkanen domino falls.

It just seems Holland and Amen are near identicals. They could stand to move one.

Well... Amen would be tough to move from Detroit seeing as he is a Rocket.

He would not be thrilled going to the bench, especially with an extension coming up. He wants to prove that he's a lead guard. I just think we would lose even more leverage once he either asks for a trade OR he's in his final year and nobody wants to risk dealing good value and then have him walk.

But if this is his value, who would really spend good money on him I wonder?

after all the chatter, for years, about how much CJ was worth, trading him only brought back one 1st. I just don't think Grant or Ant or Ayton have more draft-asset-value now than CJ did in 2022. Maybe even less considering changes in the CBA

I think that they have more value to the Blazers than what they would receive in trade at this point. That may change by the deadline as teams deal with injuries and contenders start to beef up for the playoffs.

While I don’t disagree, CJ was significantly older than Simons AND making a lot more money.

I am not sure why optics is important here. It comes down to the two players and who is more accepting of it.

Ivey was drafted higher and has started 134 games in his two years.
Simons has started 143 games in 6 seasons.

IMO you guys are too hung up with the "best player" comment. He is not our best player and I doubt his ego is so big that he would have an issue with it.

I don't think Simons would be happy on the Blazers next year off the bench at all. He's currently better than Scoot and arguably Sharpe at this time, the team isn't going to win so it would seem like he's personally sacrificing for no team benefit, Dame tooted his horn as the future of the Blazers since he was a rookie, and he scored over 20ppg the last few years.

Ivey would be much more likely to accept it coming to a new team where Scoot/Sharpe are already here and he needs to earn that spot. Now if he was clearly playing better and one of Scoot/Sharpe are underperforming it might be hard to justify keeping Ivey on the bench. But that would be the same or even a bigger issue with Simons too.

Which of the two has had an attitude problem in the past? We have never had an issue with Simons. Ivey on the other hand:
