Detroit owes a pick protected to New York

    • 2024: 1-18 Own; 19-30 to NYK
    • 2025:1-13 Own; 14-30 to NYK if not already settled
    • 2026: 1-11 Own; 12-30 to NYK if not already settled
    • 2027 : 1-9 Own; 10-30 to NYK if not already settled
So the earliest they can trade one is 2029 I believe.

But I also don't think they would trade a pick unprotected. That would be suicide by that franchise.

True but they can unprotect and just convey if they want to free up some picks.

2024 isn't relevant as that draft is over. They can trade 2027 pick 1-9. They can do a swap 2028, and swaps for the protected portions next three years. They can trade all of 2029, 2030, 2031.

But yeah can likely easily get NY to change protections as well since NY is probably concerned this is very likely only going to be a 2027 2nd rounder.

Considering how much Scoot struggled, I don't think Ant would buy in to a bench role. And even if he did...

More pressing is for our future team build, we shouldn't be spending 25-30 mil a yr on a 6th man.

Yes as you pointed out earlier, 96 minutes are available for three guys, but I just don't see the synergy there. Especially with Ant-Scoot combos.

    Disagree 100%

Grant and Ant have no value for this team unless we're planning on screwing up the rebuild in horrific ways.

Truth for me is to keep Ant this season as a starter with Scoot. Sharpe plays the role as 6th man - coming in for Ant, Scoot or Deni.

Let Ant score 30 points a game and raise his value. He becomes a perfect trade deadline addition to a team in need of firepower heading into a playoff run and we pick up a young talent plus 2025 draft capital. It’s all about Flagg a year from now! Spurs just might be a team making a playoff run and missing one more piece, like Simons.

    Salute the Flagg!

Well if Scoot struggles again then of course he needs to come off the bench. I am assuming he will be better. If he doesn't...trading Ant makes even less sense.

Ant's contract should not matter. It seems to be more of an issue with Portland fans than other teams' fans. I sure never hear those concerns here in LA from Laker or Clipper fans. Yes, they are big market teams but we all play by the same cap space rules.

Not sure if Ant and Scoot are a good combo for 8 minutes a half, however right now Scoot hasn't shown synergy with any guard. But again I expect this to improve. If not, then maybe he needs to be moved.

Well, if we go full tank and Scoot sucks, we can draft Harper (if we miss out on Flagg and Bailey).

Of course they could. That would be borderline malpractice if they do that since they've been the worst team in the league for the last half decade. But who knows, I'm not running the team.

Maybe so but their moves this summer are not that of a team who intends to tank another season. They signed Tobias Harris and Malik Beasley. They traded for THJ. They claimed Paul Reed off waivers. They seem to be building their team towards making a push at the playin.

Cronin, just like bidding against himself on the Ant extension.

All those moves were free. Unprotecting a pick that could become Cooper Flagg is not. Put more shooting around Cade and be more competitive is a goal, and they've done that already. Kicking the tires on Anfernee Simons to see if you could get him for cheap makes sense to me. Essentially trading two unprotected picks does not.

Detroit wouldn't have to unprotect the pick so its possibly #1 overall... they just tweak protections so its top5 protected or something and then converts to a 2nd rounder. That would free up 2027 and future picks for Detroit to trade. Detroit's bargaining with NY is on how low of the protections is a fair price to both sides.

Man you can’t talk any common sense with the 3-4 same guys that want Ant traded at all costs.

They have consistently been debunked and hypocritical in the way they bash our roster but praise a similar roster, aka that Sharpe Triumph dude who praised the Rockets roster which was so typically of these pretend GM’s on here that think they know more than everyone else that works in the front office for a NBA team yet always putting their foot in their mouth.

We need to start another thread so they can whine and cry all season when Ant is still on the roster hehe.

Lmao at people who think if we tank next season we are getting Cooper Flagg. It doesn’t work like that, talk about being unrealistic.

It’s luck, but you know that.

If I knew 100% if we tank next season we’re getting Cooper, then ya I’m down.

But what if we get 3rd? 4th? 5th pick?

We got the 7th pick, 3rd pick and 7th the last 3 drafts and here we still are.

I just don’t know why it’s “we need to tank so we can get Cooper”

There is no guarantee in the draft.

Sure, but you want to give yourself the best chance possible at getting Flagg.... or Bailey. And the worse you do, the better your chances that you at least won't drop out of the top 5 picks. Being the Pistons is a worst case scenario and it sucks when that happens, but that's part of the deal. But this draft has some insane talent, even at #5.

If it's broken, don't fix it.

getting packed at the rim, costly turnovers, kick outs to 28% shooters, and the "what just happened?" defense. There's a shiny new lottery pick next summer that's just beyond the Blazers grasp. The ladder to grab it is covered in "developing chemistry" stickers.
