If thats the case the direction of this franchise makes no sense. Why tank for 3 years, draft Scoot and trade Dame?

Of course...We have the most balanced and potential filled roster we've had in a very long. Why would they build it and not take it for a test drive?

If we keep Chauncey as coach can we really be said to be "trying"?

It is certainly tempting IMO. But my guess is that Grant will still be moved. They will keep the others who have not yet entered their prime. (Everyone 26 and younger) Which I am sure will blow a few gaskets in this forum.

I'll take those 3 picks plus keep ours, thank you very much.

Though I'm okay with keeping Ayton too.

Deciding to scrap our rebuild halfway through because the team is somehow "balanced" is the worst of terrible ideas. Do we have a single guy on the team that we know can play at an all star level??? The answer to that is simply, no. We don't have one guy we know will be on an all star level this year. It's a pretty safe bet that Jerami won't be. It's a good bet that Ant won't be. Those guys are complementary pieces to superstars.

We need superstars and we don't even have one guy that we can say with certainty is going to be playing at an all star level this season, let alone a single all nba level guy.

The emphasis has to be on developing our young talent. I do believe there are teams that will give us a fair return on Ant and Jerami, I doubt the same could be said for Tisse and Rob. So hopefully this front office decisively picks a lane (I know that's another thread) and that lane is building around Scoot and Shaedon, which becomes much harder when keeping Jerami and Ant because asking them to take a lesser role would be necessary and likely hard for them to take.

With all due respect I sincerely hope that the lane that the front office chooses isn't the one that @bemac and @Foxx are advocating. It wouldn't just be the wrong move it would be spitting in the face of the fans that have had to endure the second halves of these last three seasons.

Stopping midway through a rebuild so we can struggle to make it into the play-in every season until the next rebuild would be fucking terrible.

If Rob offered a second rui and dlo, Joe would counter with ‘we want 2 firsts, Rui and JV’ which is what is being reported. the workable middle between those two things is an unprotected first, rui, a swap or a 2nd and the filler getting redirected to a 3rd team.

I don’t think Joe is asking too much he’s just making sure that if the lakers thing is DOA, he hasn’t lowered the sticker price on one of his more tradeable assets for the rest of the league.

I think Rui, JV, 1 totally unprotected pick would be fine. Rui and JV are good rotational players on decent contracts and are good trade chips.

Well, there is no Dame, so it isn't the best. But I think he has an argument about the most balanced in the last 10 years, depending on one's definition. (Since the LMA, Wes, and Batum days)

One could argue that a front court of Deni, Ayton, and Grant is the best 2-way players we have had since those days.
And Sharpe is arguably the best 2-way SG we have had.

So that just leaves the PG position. No one is better than Dame but Scoot does have the potential to be a better defender. So although I am not sure I would agree with his statement, it does have the potential to be a pretty balanced team.
(with a bench of Simons, Thybulle, Camara, Clingan, Williams, Banton, Walker, Murray, Reath, and Rupert)

But it is moot since I still believe Grant will be moved.

I think it's a fucked-up roster, but it's valid to say it's balanced in that the 3 best players in terms of established talent, projected usage rates, and shot attempts, are a guard, a forward, and a C. That's different than the Dame/CJ iso tandem....although often last year, Ant & Grant crossed over into the boring Dame/MeJ-it's-my-turn-it's-your-turn-it's-my-turn-again-over-dribbling-one-on-one-chuckfest.

it's also the case that it seems Cronin has been working to make the team taller and longer, maybe because he's hoping it will mask the significant flaws of his starting SG

but this team is poorly balanced in the area that matters: good teams have two or even three all-star-or-better players as the core with the complimentary players balancing out the roster. Portland doesn't have a single player (yet) worthy of being a core piece, none of the veterans are, so any low-tier balance Portland might have will likely be irrelevant

Masking the significant flaws of Sharpe? I would not agree with that at all.

No, he won't. Not over Sharpe. Maybe if Scoot struggles at PG he might, but not at SG. Regardless of your opinion on that, my post that you responded to, had Scoot and Sharpe starting.

so...a 21 win team, obviously prioritizing staying under the luxury tax, decides to carry the luxury of a 27M/year 6th man...ok

I still think Ant will be starting on opening night....if he's still on the team
