Maybe he does start, but it won't be at SG.

Again the post we are discussing from Bemac is

"We have the most balanced and potential filled roster we've had in a very long. Why would they build it and not take it for a test drive"

What management decides to do is another discussion. But the pieces that are there, are as good as we have had in a long time.
And for me, that is Simons coming off the bench to provide what he does best. If management is not happy with Ant's salary then they can trade him. If they don't trade him then to me that means they don't see it as big as an issue that some fans are making it. It will come down to how much Scoot improves. If he is ready then he will start.

Fuck a test drive. Our team isn't ready yet. Lose this year so we have a chance at a real star in Flagg. There is no reason we should have Grant in our team.

Sharpe or Scoot are clearly not starting over Ant next season. If all 3 are here the competition will be who is starting between Scoot or Sharpe.

That's nuts - the roster that got to the WCF was clearly much more talented than this roster. Even after CJ was traded the starting roster of Dame/Ant/Hart/Grant/Nurk was a way more talented starting lineup than what we have now.

It's nuts to think we should "see what we have" and try to win because thats clearly not possible with the lack of talent here. We should be aiming for longer term.

Goes back to my prior comments... its nuts to think we can trade away Dame primarily for draft picks - and suddenly while adding no proven starters compete for the playoffs.

Much more likely we're the worst team in the league next year.

So are you saying Ant will start because it is best for the team, or because of some other reason?

I said very clearly that this team would not be better because there is............ no Dame

How many games did Dame/Ant/Hart/Grant/Nurk play together?

I'm saying Billups won't bench Simons - he's been more effective than Scoot or Sharpe. He's by far the longest tenured Blazer. They would both need to clearly outplay him in the regular season to take his starting spot. Has nothing to do with whats best for development, the team, or the rotations. Its mostly a seniority thing that is very real in the NBA, but its also based on Ant "earning" it as he has been more effective.

The statement was balanced, not talented.

Rather than Dame & the chipmunks or Dame, MeJ and the grunts, we got a bunch of young guys with potential, some more than others, but possibilities at every position.

Will we be good? Prolly not but if I see growth & team-ball rather than me-ball, I’ll be happy.

c'mon man...this is a 54 page thread. The discussion has been a fuck of a lot broader than 1 post out of a thousand. We are actually allowed to meander around in the conversations. I mean, the thread title is "trade possibilities"....that can go about 78 dozen different directions...and has.

by the way, my post was all about the roster's balance

I love LAL fans . I saw a proposed deal to get Lauri, Sexton, and Kessler without giving up Reaves OR Russell.

Idk why being currently invested in winning/competing to win with a young team means automatically you’re regressing in the rebuild or giving up?

you also don’t have to tank lol. There’s a middle ground. We are objectively a much more balanced and unpredictable roster than a single year Dame was here. Does that mean you go all in? No. But there’s a helluva lot of value in just prioritizing depth and defense. Tanking means “a chance” at something. The difference in us trying to compete this year vs “tanking” is not gonna be the difference in Cooper Flagg. You really care at those odds… go get yourself more ‘25 picks… we have the assets. But you don’t establish a losing culture with these guys.. they have too much potential to waste on throwing them out there under equipped just to complain later.

Anyone feel free to die on the “we wait for superstar” mountain top, I’m more than happy watching Cronin and Chauncey build this organically the right way. We’re gonna be really damn good at some point in the nearer future, you can see it in the roster..

Clingan… Camara… Shae or whoever is 6th man.. we didn’t have those options on the bench Norman Powell our best bench piece since??? Gimme a break. This roster is more exciting than anything we’ve had since early LA/BRoy.

Hopium meets young excellence. Mark it.

Just understand that most of the time (not every time, just most) choosing the middle ground before you know that you've found a superstar and all stars to surround him with is choosing to stay in the middle ground permanently. Like I said, if you guys think it sounds enjoyable to scrap just for a chance at the play-ins for the next five or six years just to rebuild again, then playing Ant and Jerami a ton of minutes and winning somewhere between 30 and 40 games only to give us less of a chance at getting the best guys in a draft with some real top end prospects. Cool, you guys hope for that.

I'm going to hope that Joe trades the guys who our coach has already set a precedent with that they can ball hog, guys that should be able to help win now teams do just that. So I'd like to see Ant and Jerami traded mostly for draft capital and high character vets who don't have an expectation to play and maybe a prospect. I'd like to see Joe show that he understands that we might need to dwell in the cellar for this season and maybe next in order to accrue enough guys with all nba potential to actually hit on that potential and become a relevant team.

I want championships not first round exits. For those of you who prefer the latter, I hope you don't get what you want.
