Matt Morgan with 36 points on 11-11 shooting. Is that good?

Except for Clingan, that has to be the worst Summer League performance I've ever seen. The Blazers offense was 100 percent out of control rat ball. No team rhythm, or individual rhythm, whatsoever. I think there's a good chance it would have been completely different had the Blazers bothered to put a decent fucking point guard on the team. How the hell could they expect to run an offense without a point guard? How the hell do they expect any player in Summer League to be effective without a point guard who can set up an offense and help set up teammates for success? How the hell do they expect to evaluate any of the players they brought in under these circumstances? What was even the point of fielding a Summer League team at all if they were just going to trot out the garbage they put on the floor? And who the fuck was coaching that mess? Did that team even practice together? What a pointless waste of time.

I don't think it was about money. I think they liked the guys they had too much and so there was no roster room.. I understand why Cronin would want to wait on his Grant and Anf trades so he can get a better deal, but it would have been better to shake up the roster some before the draft. Also they may be proven wrong thinking Murray and Banton are better than some second round picks. Who know though, they probably felt like they hadn't had time to evaluate them properly yet. Time will tell. This leads me to think about Scoot not playing. I think they really do plan on trading Anf before season starts and so they need a backup PG. Maybe the idea was to give these guys on the summer team lots of playing time to see if they had it or not. Unfortunately looks like they don't.

That's how I also felt a lot of the time. I felt sorry for Clingan having to play with this group. You can read my response to Americon just above as to one possible reason they didn't play Scoot. Also they were possibly hoping that Rupert and Murray could be more playmakers. But they definitely could have been coached better; looks as if they focused on defense mostly.

I think the biggest part was agents not wanting their clients to be on two-way contracts vs a regular rookie contract.

When someone tops 7', do we really need to quibble over a half inch or so?

I keep going back to right after the lottery this year. Everyone's bummed that we dropped to the 7th pick. Then, I come in and tell you that in the future, the player we draft at 7...
    • led summer league in blocked shots/game (4 games).
    • led the summer league in rebounding/game.
    • Did this without being in the top 50 in summer league mpg (this year).
    • Got more blocks per game than anyone in summer league history!
    • Played against the 6th pick, and was obviously way, way better.
    • Played against the #2 pick who was many people's highest ranked player, and completely destroyed him.
    • Acts like a quarterback on defense, and the team defense is MUCH better when he plays (again, in summer league).
    • Doesn't care about individual accolades, team first, team last.
    • Is definitely a work in progress as a 3 point shooter, but he's working on it consistently, and has good form.
You'd go ape shit, just like I'm doing right now....

fixed. Clingan vs. Clingan would be a very low scoring game....

Clingan is also the only player in summer league history to be top 10 in both blocks and rebounds.

edit: I phrased this poorly. There is only one player to be top 10 all time in summer league blocks and rebounding. That player is CK.
