Blazers will not trade Simons until they are convinced Scoot is their future pg. That, imo, hasn't been done as yet. He will have an opportunity to beat Simons out but he will come off the bench early on, at least. We will see how much he has improved his game.

Im sure they have been presented with offers to date, but like you say we aren't trying to win now, so they don't have to be in a hurry. I would expect Simons to come out and give it his best to keep the starting position which would only increase his value. There will indeed be trades and I dont think anyone on the team is un-tradable.

No we are not trying to win next year but we should try to win the following year and to do so I would prefer to keep everyone but Grant. (and Thybulle)

Yes, the right return for Simons would indeed also be attractive, but the part where everyone seems to differ is what is an acceptable return. The range on this board is wide. Anywhere from dumping his salary for a pick, to getting a starting young forward in return.

Yes, we all want that high lottery pick next year so we can draft a young star. But let's say we do get Flagg or Bailey, we would not need to keep tanking. They would still need 2-3 years to develop, but at least the team could then go all in and try to win the following year. Assuming we keep enough surrounding young talent in the process. And by young I mean players who will still be in their prime in 3-4 years. I would say only Grant doesn't fit that timeline.

I realize the other side of that debate is if we trade them all away for picks, we will be in a position for a trade when the time comes. To me, that is possible........ but is it probable? I want to keep Ayton and Simons unless they get an offer that is too good to pass up.

Does anyone here honestly believe Scoot will be a top 3 point guard in the league within the next five years? From what I’ve seen, while the sampling is small, I doubt he would ever crack the top ten. Move on.

Wow! After 62 games where he did nothing but trend up, it's time to "Move on."???

I have no idea if Scoot can be a top 3 PG in the NBA, it's a very competitive position but he's a competitive guy. He also has a great attitude. I think being ready to give up on him at this point is some mind boggling.

You aren't assured anything until you get them. We're going to have to suck until we are sure we have some young stars.

Anything else is just kicking ourselves in the balls.

And we aren't sure we have any stars yet. We probably need to plan on sucking at least 2 more seasons.

He could. I'm certainly not sure he won't. But I'm not sure he will either.

I definitely wouldn't count on it either way.

If you’re going to form an opinion based on low sample size, at least look at his last 20 games instead lol. Seems like you are on that wave tho like many

This is a huge mistake. Simons is not our future PG. At least, not if we want to build a contender.

Teams have probably low balled us for Simons, obviously there hasn't been a pack that Joes likes so far, or he's incompetent? Not sure it would be a mistake to wait, as the team is in tank mode and offers would more than likely improve? What exactly is the mistake? his value goes down?

Ant knows he has to play well for other teams to give up value for him. And those teams who will give up value won't be rebuilding teams. He wants to win, play well

The mistake would be keeping Simons until Scoot proves he's our PG of the future or takes the spot from Simons.

If Scoot doesn't prove he's the PG of the future that doesn't mean Simons is.

Need to move Simons for the best draft capital possible as soon as possible.

Simons value isn't likely to improve beyond this season. In fact, we may already be seeing diminishing returns as the rest of the league becomes more familiar with him.

Yes, Blazer fans are so much smarter than the GMs around the league. We need to get rid of Ant before others catch on.

Agree neither could be pg of future, I think Ants value will increase even if he comes off the bench.
Im just an old roundball nut, what do I know.
I do feel if we end up with Flagg we need to have solid shooters/players around him. My hope is unless someone knocks our socks off with a good trade Ant comes off the bench.

What does that even mean? Getting him into a different situation could change things for him. Other teams may not need him to play defense. Ant has valuable skills that would help some winning teams.

Once again. The mistake would be keeping him as insurance. You're only keeping him as insurance if you see him as a valuable piece moving forward. And he's not a lead guard for a winning team. But he's good enough to take valuable minutes with the ball that another player could use to develop faster.

So keeping him as insurance makes no sense.

He's far more valuable to us as a trade chip who can bring in more draft opportunities.

I don't see Ant coming off the bench, and I don't see how his value improves in his 7th season even if he's starting, let alone coming off the bench. People know what he is.

I could see a GM hoping a different situation gives him a bump, but that's about it. He's not going to transform his defense or be less of an ISO player after 6 seasons in the NBA.

I agree, he does have skills that can help a winning team. He just turned 25 and has yet to enter his prime, so why not keep players who are young enough to help us win in the future? The league already knows what Ant can and can not do. His value will not diminish because the rest of the league becomes more familiar with him.

Trading him for someone worse (for matching salary purposes) just so we can get a future non-lottery pick, is not worth the daily posts on the subject. It won't get us a star.

Labeling him as an ISO player because he is one of the few players on this team who can create his own shot is what makes no sense to me, nor does tanking for multiple years after this next one. At some point, you will have lost most of the fan base.
