it's nearly 27M/year by the way

the problem is that if you look at teams that might have had an interest is Simons as a starter, it would have (probably) been Dallas, before they added Kyrie, and Orlando, before they added KCP. Other than those two teams, I can't really see any others that would be willing to pay much at all for Simons

I know the Spurs have been mentioned, but they have a loaded back court with Vassell, Keldon Johnson, CP3, Stephon Castle, Tre Jones, and Malaki Branham. Another team that has been mentioned is Detroit, but their back court is pretty full with Cunningham, Hardaway Jr., Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, Malik Beasely, and Marcus Sasser

as far as any team that might be willing to consider Ant as a PG I'd wonder if the Pelican's experience with the 'CJ-at-PG' experiment has shut down that market

and the notion of Ant as a 6th man falls apart, IMO, with the reality of that 27M/year salary and his undersized no-defense flaws. Maybe the Blazers might be willing to experiment but no other team would want to

ok...it might make some sense if you stretched imagination a little; but I can't see it making nearly enough sense to the Pistons that they'd fork over a 1st round pick that didn't have substantial protections. By the way, the earliest 1st round pick Detroit has available is 2029...lol...there's that draft again

So what I am hearing is Joe will have to give them away for next to nothing. OR just keep them and run it back like last year and purgatory continues? I still think the latter is what the team will do. Play hard as you can until the trade deadline then shut down the starters and tank. Sound familiar?

If only one, trade Grant first

Makes sense in that Cade is a big PG and they can really use Ant’s shooting.

But yeah, no draft assets. But lots of young talent like Ausar/Ivey.

IF the Blazers just wanted to "dump" one of them they could have accepted a crappy Laker trade by now so that thinking is flawed as hell. Also as much shit as I give Cronin he is playing the Grant and maybe Ant trade situations perfectly cause they are worth more then cast off parts and a late 1st round pick. As much as I do think Grant more then Ant need to be gone before the season starts I want any trade to make sense and not be another Clipper BS trade or the CJ trade where the Blazers only got like 70 to 80% of the value in return. -- FACT

In my mind, there are two ways to assess a player's value--value on the market, and value to the team:
    • On the open market, they are worth precisely what they return. If no team wants to give up 2 firsts, then it's fallacious to claim that those players are worth that.
    • To the Blazers franchise, are you certain that Ant and Grant are worth more than castoff parts and a late 1st?
Exactly what value do Simons and Grant provide to the Blazers? Given that we aren't pursuing the playoffs this season, their value to the Blazers' future is the only thing that's relevant. Do you think either of them figure in to their future plans? That they could contribute to the Blazers' success when they start trying in a couple years? Or that either player is a benefit to the young players we're developing?

My conclusion: If there isn't a team out there that is willing to give 2 firsts for Grant, then I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that a package of Rui/Vincent/1 FRP is actually worth more to the Blazers' future than Grant is.

Or you can take the Morey/Simmons approach of just sitting them and waiting for opposing teams' valuations to match yours...

BUT: they won't give up Ausar and we don't want Ivey.

Plus their new GM's #1 stated goal is to improve their defense, and if that's your goal you don't trade for Anfernee.

I was hopeful they'd take Jerami back so that they'd at least reach the salary floor, but they went with Harris instead.

I think Fentress is wrong: I think both of them will be in training camp with the plan to pump up their value and dump them by the trade deadline.

Fentress is rarely correct. My guess is he got his information from a message board and is stating what many think.
If Joe wanted to leak that information, (to create inquiries) he is going to Woj.

I would suspect Joe has no loveloss for Fentress after the Dame to MIA debacle.

That's pretty common with really talented scorers. If he were a good defender he'd be a max player.

And then I'd want to keep him and build around him.

I’m not sure either of those team archetypes exist at all. But I will say that the Blazers are a verifiably terrible team and contract aside, Ant would probably look better with a shot diet of open looks vs taking the hardest shots in the league on average.

credit Mike from Locked on Blazers. He drifted into enemy territory, and sold Jerami Grant hard to the Locked on Lakers guys. I left the pod believing Jerami Grant is an MVP candidate on a salary cap friendly contract.
