by the end of this year. I'm sure that money will be allocated to several players including Lindgren unless they trade him at the deadline if the season doesn't go well.
I think one thing seems almost certain to me; Trouba will not be a Ranger after the 24-25 season. I say almost certain, because anything can happen between now and next summer, but I cannot see him playing out the final season of his contract as a Ranger. You even saw in some of the reporting how after this year his wife is done with having to be in NY, so his personal situation changes as well. He held the Rangers hostage this summer due to family, but next summer will be different.
They will probably find it more palatable to buy him out with just one year left if they have to. This seems like it may be one of those 'lost' years for the team, where they lose early in the playoffs as they sort of transition towards a new phase the following year with more cap space and prospects filtered in.
My guess is they would probably find a way to trade him next summer, even if they have to retain a little money. With only one year remaining, and the cap going up, Trouba will for sure be tradeable. Why have a dead cap space penalty year added if you buy him out, not to mention you should be able to save worst case as much, if not more by trading him and only retaining a little worst case. I say he is traded next summer, not a buyout. I do agree that it is difficult to see them being a legit SC contender this upcoming season considering they have gotten worse, not better, since the playoffs ended.
Basically what’s the point even watching next season if it’s a transition season lol we all know how it will end
Such nonsense, the Rangers gave Florida a tough series with key players hurt and only lost Goodrow in the off season. This year Bonino and Diguiseppe will be replaced by Sykora and Othmann, huge upgrades along with my favorite Matt Rempe. Igor is in a contract year so should be at the top of his game and the defensive unit comes back with Jones likely taking the #6 spot. It will all boil down to Lav getting the top lines to perform postseason.
I'm not writing off this season (that doesnt start for another 2+ months) yet. I made that mistaken assumption last year and they blew all expectations out of the water. Its fair to say that Panarin is going to regress and Laf will progress but who knows to what degree. The rest remains to be seen and is anyone's guess. In my middling age I am losing enthusiasm for regular season hockey. When the season gets into December I just want it to be April.
My take is no one should be writing off a season before it even starts, anything can happen, and the Rangers are at least a decent/solid team. With that said, as I wrote above I do think it is a stretch to view them as a legit SC contender at this time considering they lost not just Goodrow, but multiple players off the team that ended the Florida series, and really only added Smith to replace them (I don't see Carrick playing any impactful role on this team as the season progresses - he'll be similar to Bonino I believe). I think it would be extremely optimistic to think the team is better now than it was last season. But just because I believe it is unlikely they are a legit SC contender going into the season, doesn't mean I will write it off. The games still need to be played, so let's see how it goes.
not sure why not just trade him to a team not on the list... so he cant be moved to 15 teams...well there are 16 teams that he can be traded to...
After reading his interview with the NY Times I don't think Trouba's going anywhere, despite the knee jerk emotional trade him for a bag of pucks cries he's still a solid dman. Since the Cup win 30 years ago the Rangers haven't even fielded competitive teams half the years, now they have a team that's made the conference finals twice the last 3 years and are returning with what I believe is a better team. The wagon hasn't started rolling yet, no need to jump off.
