Because if one of them dont look to be a build around piece they, may be included in a trade.

Cannot predict how the lottery plays out but it will be tough being better than Boston, NY, Dallas, Minnesota, San Antonio, and OKC for awhile.

We still have no idea where Sharpe and Scoot careers are heading either. Both could make All-NBA teams (doubt either are MVP candidates) or could be just ok. Regardless of ownership, I do not think we should stop the tank till we have a player that has MVP potential.

Does not matter. Literally at all.

Whether it's soon, and those who expect it are vilified
Or it's a while, and those who have come to grips are vilified
Or it's hella long ways away, and those who don't accept will stay right here and complain about it daily...

It is exactly what it is going to be.

Here is a crazy concept.....fans could enjoy the journey regardless....cuz not a single comment here will ever alter the path the team takes.

And get rid of any vets who will contribute to wins. You can always add those guys back once we get the young talent.

    Again...

Someone who is vilified for something are being abused like they are some sort of villain. I don't want to put words in your mouth but I'd imagine you are trying to get to the word vindicated but I can't be sure.

Im old enough to remember an era when NBA teams tried to win as many games as possible each year in order to make the playoffs. Then it was kind of a new season from there. And fan support grew with TV
The team with the worst record in the league got the #1 pick. And there were a few teams that got that pick numerous times. But playoff basketball was the what really created excitement and hope that you could Shock The World. If an organization was constantly at the bottom they were deemed bad organizations, because many couldn't make noise with numerous high picks on a regular basis. Salaries took off, the league expanded with wild cards & nearly half the teams made the off's. When the lottery came about coupled with 1 and done, with a few generational players , there seemed to be trend to tank. I do think some teams use it as a way to cut cost and start over with more manageable salaries until they catch the star to build on.

That's the only way for small market teams to compete. That's just the reality of the situation. When one or two guys can be the difference between winning 50 games and 30 games on an NBA team you have to have top end talent.

For small market teams, the only way to do that is to draft them.

We need to get the highest draft pick we possibly can until we have a couple guys we are sure we'll be all stars. If we don't do that we're just shooting ourselves in the foot.

To do that without tanking in bad taste during the season we need to get rid of most of our vets. The ones we have the most duplication with are Ant and Grant.

How do you define a vet? Is there a certain age? Is Sharpe a vet yet?

Guys who have peaked in their development and aren't likely to be perennial all stars.

    Definitely does not include Sharpe.

Might be the classic "It was better when..." but I remember loving being a fan of some really bad Pacer teams in my youth. Never thought they were trying to tank, even though that was an era of some really bad owners. The Kings and Clippers come to mind. Not sure what the answer is to getting teams to always be trying to win with the teams most deserving getting the top choice in the draft.

The past few seasons have been tough to be a Blazer fan with our indirect tanking strategy.

I'd say there is nothing to suggest Portland will be a top 6 team in the future. With the amount of turnover in the league, projecting 5+ years out feels like a near worthless exercise.

Having said that, I'll put the odds of them being a top 6 team in the next 5 years at less than 10%.

Do I have to post the same post in every thread? Lol

I tried to pick a poster child of a thread that kind of stood for the rest.

For me, I love following this team. I focus on what I like, and accept the rest. Works for me. The defeatist pall on this board is astounding.

    My hope is 5-7 years.

8-10 would be ok, might even have one of Scoot, Sharpe, etc still performing a role.

11+ is most likely the clearly correct answer, which is kind of depressing.
