I never said they should be traded for nothing matter of fact in another post someplace on this forum I said Cronin who I am not a fan of has handled the situation very well and they SHOULD NOT just be traded for spare parts. However as someone pointed out to me that keeping them all might end up stunting the growth of certain younger players too. While the Blazers should try there best to get the most they can for these players at some point they might have to take 80 to 90% of that players worth so this team can move forward. Also and hate to break it to you this team BEST case scenario is prolly two seasons IF everything breaks right for the team to MAYBE sneak into the playoff picture cause as we all know the west is tough and that is a fact. One more thing the GM thing no one said being a GM was easy and the way you came off are you friends with Cronin or something cause your trying to defend him ( even though he was not being attacked BTW ) like your buddies with him or something.

Nah I’m more pushing back on the fact that we don’t know what offers are there for Grant and Ant. Some are basically saying dump them or take what we can get regardless of how bad it is before training camp and I think that’s just dumb.

plus if it’s well known we need or should trade those two they why will any team send us fair value back right now?

how about play hard ball, and keep them into the season if we aren’t getting fair value and let OTHER teams up the offer when they get more desperate as next season goes on for teams that want Ant and Grant. We ain’t going anywhere next season, what’s the rush to dump them? So that’s my argument back.

Cronin has to play chess here or else we are going to get another CJ type trade that doenst really benefit us and the negativity Nancy’s in here will come for Cronin’s head.

Cronin played the Dame trade well and didn’t cave into the pressure or rush to trade Dame and got fair value back.

that’s what I want him to do here too.

A few posters here and they know who they are, are going to throw a hissy fit if we have Ant and Grant on the team to start the season, when they don’t know what the offers are.

Grant and Simons are the future! Two best players on the team as of right now.

I'll step forward and say that I want both Ant and Grant traded. No secret there. I would prefer Ant traded over Grant, but there seems to be little if no market for him. That could be a product of Cronin wanting too much in return for him. It could also be product of Ant's game. He is all offense, no defense. We can agree about the defense. But Dame was the same, but his offense and will to win was a whole other level making his defensive inabilities passable. Ant just isn't there and I do not foresee it. Just an opinion. I also do not see Ant getting a big contract like Grant did after this one expires. I could be wrong because of the new tv contracts and the crazy money that will be available. I am thinking Ant will have to get used to being instant offense off of the bench in the future, and teams aren't paying as much for sixth men these days. As a fan, I would much rather see Scoot struggle and overcome early than Ant play a much lower version of Dame. I like the prospect of Scoot getting his shot together, learning to finish better, but with both hands as has been pointed out. I love the prospects of him being a great passer finding teammates for not just open threes but spectacular dunks as well. Yes, he needs to learn the NBA game and protect the ball better, but aren't we watching the top point guard in the WNBA, a certifiable generational player struggling with the same fundamentals. Scoot also shows the potential to be a good defensive player as well. He has both size and speed with that wing span. Plus the want to excel defensively. I am not looking for Scoot to be the best player on the team nor the top offensive player. I am looking for Scoot to be the leader both offensively in distributing the ball and setting a tone defensively. I want 8+ assists per game and productive shooting splits on decent volume, not huge volume. I don't care if Scoot scores 12 points per game or 20. I want him to wear his ass off on defense and distribute the ball and score when the opportunity is there. The anti-Ant. As for Grant, he is getting just too much money to be on a rebuilding team that needs more ping pong balls, which trading him would provide. Unfortunately those ping pong balls will not be in the next draft. At least LA has interest in Grant. Get the deal done, open cap space to take on a contract for more draft capital and move this rebuild into overdrive. I look forward to seeing Scoot, Sharpe, Avdija and Ayton playing to win but coming up short and getting the top pick in the next draft. I don't live in Portland, but I would rather pay to see that lineup than one that has Ant/Grant playing ISO ball with no movement and little defensive effort. But that is just me.

with this rationale why not just wait until Ant expires? it doesn’t seem like you think much of black. his summer league and nba minutes weren’t very impressive, was able to watch a fair amount of magic this year. what did you think of Anthony black?

On the contrary, I think that Black is a special player, especially on defense. He's very similar to Stephon Castle, only even larger. His Achilles heel is shooting, unfortunately, but he was the proverbial "too good for Summer League" this year and even if he never becomes a great shooter he could have a less-athletic-Iguodala career. "If he's so good, why would Orlando trade him?" Because they can't really expect to win with him AND Suggs in the backcourt, and they have Franz Wagner at SF. Meanwhile, as that article points out, they could really use the shooting that is Anfernee's strength. (Of course, in theory, so could we, but we're not trying to win right now.)

Interesting note here by Fischer basically saying Grant doesn’t want to be traded.

Well - doesn't want to be traded midseason. Sounds like if he's to be traded, he wants it before his kids' school year starts...

This is all part of the dance. Can be used as a negotiating tool in a trade. Just like the "demand" POR has to have two picks for JG ( I don't buy it for a second; you would NEVER leak your bottom line).

If the Lakers were close to a trade including 2 picks and decided not to — and this has been reported though not widely —then THEY could have leaked it to justify inaction. Cronin has not confirmed or denied. If 2 picks is part of the price, now everyone “knows it” and Cronin does not have to say anything. Just waits.

    [It’s one theory/explanation.]

Markannan has agreed on an extension, so he's off the trade market for a year.

It's been 30 days since rookies signed so they're all eligible to be traded such as Dalton Knecht.

If a Grant or Simons trade was pending on one of these things I'd expected it to get completed in the next week or two.

Otherwise we're likely stairing at the opening night Blazers roster being as is.

I think LeBron is gonna get back after the Olympics and be like, "WTF have you guys been doing while I was gone? Get it done."

I think it's August. I'm sure Joe and Pelinka or whoever the hell else Joe is in negotiations with will pick them up again with more urgency as we get into September and closer to training camp. I'm pretty sure most of us expected that if nothing was done by the end of Summer League we'd be waiting until the end of this month. That being said, who the hell knows, maybe we'll see a big deal get announced tomorrow... highly unlikely but again, who knows?
