What a piece of shit country it has become. I love England's history, it's landscape, and it's brought the world a lot of innovation. It was the starting point of the industrial revolution, and is the home of many of the greatest scientists who ever lived. But now it's rotten. They're arresting people for thought crimes, tweets, even just for re-tweeting something. And we're not talking about open threats of violence. Take this example. A UK man responded to a fb post that he felt was a display of police brutality, and he simply replied "Filthy bastards" and is getting a 12 week prison sentence. People get less time for actual violence. And it's not a small number, it's been over 4,000 so far. The view on this is the source of a massive schism between what we call the "left" and the "right", in America, as many leftist politicians are in favor of having this kind of society. And I know many of you will defend this in the comments. I find it to be absolutely unacceptable. This is why it's important that a population not give up its right to bear arms, because when the social contract between the citizens and government can be breeched to such a degree, as to render it void.
I like Neal Brennan, but he, and those who make this argument are way off base on many levels with this analogy. Primarily, that the main point isn't to stage pitched battles against the military. Except the American military would be fighting itself in any civil war in the US. Much of the military would split off and take the side of some of the people. As with the police. There will never be an all US military vs all civilians war. The side that has the most civilian guns will have somewhat of an advantage in that respect, especially if the military sides are equal.
I honestly think many would just do what they are told because they want to go home to their families instead of fanning the flames of a civil war from the fringes of the two parties. If a full blown have to make a choice civil war happened, I see your point.
Yeah. I just flat out don't see it happening. I can't imagine how it could even start. The closest I could see would be the US government failing. And the US military splintering. Or dissolving all together. Then civilian weapons would come in handy first self-defense, possibly against our own police/military or possibly another country's military. Or maybe against raiders or gangs. Scary to think about... Best to avoid those situations altogether.
