I find the hate that is politically motivated the biggest issue. Tough to see things with an open mind if the people you are aligned with in most every aspect of your life fall in line to those kinds of attacks.
I think about the 15-16 year old who is simply repeating what their parents are saying. Heck . Take it a step further and think about what kids in grade school 9-10 years old are saying?

 

It's funny that it took successful intersex athletes to drag the conservatives kicking and screaming to the reality that sex is not binary... only to have them decide that it's still some nefarious plot to weaken the west or whatever. And they still cannot wrap their heads around the difference between sex and gender. Even a 5 year old could comprehend that.

This is what happens in Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome: we all start out the same way and then XY individuals usually respond to the release of androgen in utero to turn their gonads into testes, but if you have AIS, you don't change and carry on in "default mode" which is to turn into somebody with a vagina and breasts (once puberty hits). But you're XY, so you don't have a uterus and instead of ovaries you have undescended testes. This was the reason that Maria Patino (Spanish hurdler) "failed" a sex test back in the day. Fucked up her life: killed her athletic career and her boyfriend dumped her (the cad).
